Glk 350 2013 checking -refilling transmission fluid 722.96

2013, 722.96 transmission.
How do you check the transmission fluid?
Does the transmission have a tube going to the transmission that is sealed with a cap?
How do you properly refill the transmission after dropping the pan and draining the torque converter?
Would you have to run it to get the torque converter full?
I have looked for videos but don’t find anything more than a simple drain and fill.
I bought the Transmission kit with 10 qt from Fcp Euro. But the pan takes about 6 quarts.
This is too complicated, why can’t it be easy like most vehicles.

You cant check the fluid.

No there is no tube going into the tranny

Drain the tranny through the drain plug (make sure to push the plastic guide inside the pan to the side), drain the torque converter. Take pan off change guide tube, filter, gasket. Use new bolts. Measure the fluid you pull out.
Put it back together.
Use adapter and fluid pump to pump all the fluid in.
Start car, run through all gear multiple times to refill TQ
Wait until tranny fluid gets up to temp, use OBD scanner to read temp. (Forget the exact temp but its online)
Unscrew adapter and pump, excess fluid will pour out, should be around 0.5 L or a bit less.
Tighten drain plug.

Its not easy because it was supposed to be a lifetime fill, but then they had a bunch of failures with the trannys and decided that it should be done.

Here is a link with a different car but lots of good tips:

I used a temperature gun, it works great. Also make sure you have a 27mm socket to rotate the engine in order to access the TC drain plug. And, there is a washer in the TC drain plug, don't forget to replace that one as well. I done it 2 times now on my glk and ml. It not hard, just time consuming. It takes forever for the transmission fluid to warm up to the temperature. Also make sure your car is level before you start the flush. There are few YouTube videos are very good. Almost cover everything you need to know.

Is the TC drain plug washer something you can get at any auto store by walking in? Or is that a specific mb part I’ll need to order? I was planning on doing this tomorrow, I bought a 9qt kit from fcp euro being delivered today , I know they included the pan drain plug washer.

Is the transfer case changed and filled in this process? I’m surprised it isn’t separate.

Transfer cases that I am familiar with (MB GLE350 and Toyota) are separately filled and drained. Not connected fluid-wise to the transmission. It’s much easier to drain and refill the W166 GLE transfer case than it is the 722.9 7G-Tronic transmission. Not sure if the GLK is similar to the W166.

In theory, as long as you can find the same size of the TC drain washer, you should be good. But because of the location and the way transmission has to be overfill to adjust the level, I will get the OEM and torque the drain plug at spec to ensure no leak. However, when I first time drained the TC, i didn't know there is a washer, so i reused the washer. I am not sure if there is a leak, even if there is, it a very very slow leak, and should be able to last till my next transmission flush. Oh! and 9 qt are just enough, make sure you pump all 9 qt Into the transmission, adjust the temperature, before you release the fluid and adjust the level

Yes, from what I understand. I also suggest you to flush your front diff and rear diff as well

With the lift, 2 and half hour maybe? But they go by the book how much they charge per job.

I have a 2013 GLK250. I've changed it once. However, my engine requires a special tool on the crankshaft to rotate the engine (no large nut) so I wasn't able to do the TC. A week or so ago I talked with a highly recommended independent MB repair shop, and he said that the 2013 tranny does NOT have the TC drain plug. He also said that he doesn't even have the special tool required to turn the engine. I didn't believe him, so I printed out the section in the service manual and took it to him, and as we were going through the info, we saw where it said on draining the TC, "except for model year 2013".

So looks like only a partial change is possible on a 2013.
