Not going into park
Been lurking here and have been impressed and gained lots of knowledge.
Today the Glk does not go into park with the usual procedure(stop the car push button for park)
Shut the car off and it goes into park?
Any help or insight on what is going on would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry just realized I could have searched first.

1. Faulty brake switch
2. Faulty "park button" on the stalk
3. Auxiliary battery (if your GLK has one)
I took a look at the auxiliary battery, it is dated from 2012. It has a one inch crack on the top, looks like liquid has leaked.
I ordered a new one. Thanks
P. S. I am new to being on a forum so please bear with me.

I'm shocked you didn't get the "Aux battery malfunction" error message up on the dash , considering the shape the battery is in.
(I got the error, why I replaced ours)

Might want to re-read the first post - the issue is their GLK won't shift into Park (as in Park, Neutral, Drive, etc) ...not an issue with the parking brake

Not the perfect choice of words on my part but I fully understood what was written. A bad or removed aux. battery will have no effect on the functionality of the Park push button on the stalk.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Replaced aux.(10or11 years old). Problem not fixed.
Not going into park I found out is an intermittent problem.
I will try to replace the brake light switch(cheap enough).
Trouble finding location and maybe pictures or video on
replacement. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

So far I have replaced the aux. battery(over due) and the brake switch(easy enough and inexpensive),
but now keep getting display message ESP inoperative. Will wait and see if it resets.
That is all I have.
Not going into park issue turned out to be intermittent. I used info gained here(thank you). Checked aux. battery, 10/11 years old, no aux. battery light on
dash. Installed new aux. battery on principle alone.
Three four days of daily driving later not going into park issue gone!
Almost the same time the above issue was solved, ESP warning on dash keeps coming on and resets after shutting down the car?
I replaced the brake switch with Mercedes part. The switch seemed to be adjustable as to the depth of how far away the switch is to the steel arm of the of
the brake pedal at rest(kinda hard to explain). I noted the position of the switch before removing it(quite sure it was original because of the date on it).
I put the new switch at the same depth. Drove it around for quite a few days. No self reset.
Frustrated and not a lot of time to fool around I brought the car to the local small auto repair shop(crossed fingers). Half a day later they
call, cars all set 51 dollars, said switch needed adjustment. WOW. No more ESP warning light for 7 days running so far.
Long winded wasn’t it!
thanks for listening

Not going into park issue came back again. Different this time as there is no warning lights(ESP) or other wise.
I installed a new brake switch as I had one left over from the last time this happened, no change. You have to stop
and either turn the key off and remove it or open the door to get it into park.
GLK is at an independent shop! Wish me luck(my wallet is sore already). Any ideas throw them at me.
Thanks for listening

So same issue happened - so you replaced the switch again ... maybe, it's an adjustment issue ?!?!
This time not going into park is different in that no warning lights etc…I found out what the local shop did, they pushed it in all the way(that was there adjustment).
I did the same thing this time(still not going into park).
Today I picked up the GLK from independent shop. They pulled code U113B-29 (intelligent servo module, communication with the direct select lever has a malfunction) said they are not 100% it will fix the problem, cannot go forward with a maybe. They said part from dealer
is $825. They said it’s time to take it to the dealer.
Any more thoughts, help etc…before I call the dealer would be appreciated

The GLK came back from the dealer after fixing the not going into park issue. (OUCH).
They replaced the steering column module(control unit) plus the bolt and lock washer to hold in the steering wheel.
Total was $ 1761.
The said this is only the third time they had to replace this unit, day after my car showed up another(a year newer) car needed the same repair.
Wife does not like the car any more.

The newest GLK you can replace it with is a 2015. If you go newer, the GLC is the replacement. We went with a GLB. Compare carefully. Nothing quite like the GLK is available.
My wife put up with our older ML through a power steering pump, A/C repairs, transfer case output bearing. When the fuel pump stranded her, she said, ‘No more.”
