I'm not sure which "sound" we're looking for ... I hear three sounds that someone might wonder about.

Also, you mentioned , "it varies on temperature" ... what temperature... outdoor weather temp or the temp of the engine??

Thanks for the reply. Time in the video for the sound is at exactly 0:55, 0:58, 1:01 and 1:05. I am accelerating then hitting the brakes. When I hit the brakes is when the squeaking sound happens, but also it happens when I go over bumps as well, so it's not related to the brakes. I mean the outside temperature

My first guess is the most common "wear failure" in the GLK's front geometry - the "compliance bushing" on the "upper" control arm (though it's clearly very low - confusing terminology).

Anyway, your first clue will be the signs of the dark fluid seeping out from the fluid-filled bushing, and then by the movement.

Anyway, here's a video I did on my 2012 "project" GLK, showing both symptoms clearly:

That is interesting. I had no idea those were fluid filled. I was under the car today and did not see any leaks from either of those bushings and could not hear anything when I moved them around a bit.

I didn't see any signs of leakage (maybe it had all been washed away), but both of mine were bad, and the left one was making a "clunk" when you hit a bump just right.

The clunk when you release the gas ? If you coast then and hear a clunk when accelerating its the front driveshaft, what I really hear is the motor . Did you test all suspension parts to see if they are loose with a prybar? I had a noise, I ended up replacing everything and the driveshaft, no more noise !

Update: Turns out it was one of the bushings on the lower control arm that the fluid leaked out of. Perfectly silent now.

Super helpful information and video! I have some noises and will be checking these compliance bushings.
