Wheel change assist roller

I guess this could be classified as an unnecessary toy, over-kill, nice to have item or a possible back saver, for mounting/removing wheels...

You crank the little handle to raise or lower the wheel so it is in line with the hub, height-wise. Then, because of the long rollers the wheel sits on, you can easily rotate the wheel until the wheel mounting holes line up with the threaded holes in the hub and then insert the wheel bolts (screws).

If it could lift the wheel high enough to store on my tire rack, yes! Can you provide us a source for this item?

only lifts a few inches. it's from Europe. no idea if it's sold elsewhere. of course there may be a similar item made/sold in North America.

I figured someone would post a reference to the vehicle positioning dolly - really pretty much the same thing, but with the ability to scoot the car around in any direction, as long as you buy four (and have a level, smooth garage floor).

And FWIW, they do have a much less spendy option - about $65 for a pair, though they're not as easily adjusted or capable of lifting the car (at all). Still, if you just slid one under your tire as you are unbolting it, and carefully raised or dropped that corner with your jack, you could still use it to place a wheel in position without straining (well, other than pumping the floor jack).

I have a set of GoJaks to move vehicles around but don't use them for wheel mounting or removal. You have fixed steps (teeth) to raise/lower rather than infinite adjustment (crank handle) and it's not easy to rotate the wheel to line up the holes. With the other device the wheel rests on rollers with ball bearings. Very easy to rotate the wheel C.W. or C.C.W. in tiny amounts, to line everything up and no annoying foot pedal that gets in the way or has to be locked down.

Put on my Winter wheels yesterday. At 77 I find they get heavier every year just hanging in my garage!

That's nothing. I drive to the office after each weekend and find that they have added another step to the staircase going up to the 3rd floor. They do that crap on the weekends thinking nobody will notice on Monday morning.

I just have a stainless steel pin that I screw into the hub. Roll the tire out and lift it into place and hang. Isn't that hard but a little lifting.

My parking area is gravel so probably wouldnt work so well. I use a 2-wheel dollie just to move the floor jack around.

I usually jack the car up so the wheel is 1" off the ground so its a short lift to mount it back on when kneeling. The lip on the hubs do a good job holding the wheels on as long as one hand is keeping it from tilting. I'll have a wheel bolt in the socket ready to screw it in.

One of the best investments I made was getting a Dewalt DCF901 impact for removing the wheel bolts. Just as long as they are properly torqued. I dont use it for installing nuts and bolts though, just removing.

Harbor Freight also sells a set of wheel hanger pins -- 2 each of 12mm and 14mm x 1.25 & 1.5 (8 pins total) that fit most Euro cars. Really helpful getting the wheel onto the hub so the lug bolts can be easily installed.

I have the various wheel hanger pins for my different cars. Still prefer my roller gadget when the car is near the floor :-)
