$400 Autel Scan tool can't do Brake Bleed function?

I purchased the Autel MaxiCOM MK808S, upon connecting it to my 2014 Mercedes GLK 350 4matic I tried to use the "Brake bleed" function.

I was very surprised to see my vehicle was not supported. I got the following message: "This model series 204.988 is not supported"

I do not understand how this is possible with a high level scan tool like this.

Edit: the whole reason i purchased this scantool was to use that brakebleed fucntion to flush out the old brake fluid in the ABS module, which is something that cannot be done without a scantool

An OBD device is not required to carry out the WIS procedure for brake fluid replacement.

how are you supposed to flush out the old fluid in the ABS module

WIS specifies no such activity. Have you read the WIS procedure? It is posted on this site a couple of dozen times.

I did my G550's brake flush last year per its WIS procedure. There is nothing in the WIS brake fluid replacement procedure that requires intervention with the ABS. My understanding is that the ABS only needs attention if an ABS component has been serviced or replaced. The fluid that resides there is a small portion of the total system capacity, and fresh fluid dilutes it. Like changing your engine oil, you can't wring out every last milliliter, so you settle for replacing 95% of it, and call it a day.

Do a "search". (like: "x204 brake bleed")

The FIRST article link I got is a lengthy detailed thread, started by, @Mmr1 in Dec 2024, about brake bleeding. In that thread, there is also a link to another thread showing the brake bleed process (with photos), created by another MBWorld member. Great info in both those threads, which I'll use when it's time.

Did you go online with a computer, create an account and download the latest update? That was necessary for my much older Autel when I first got it. The world of Autel has gotten much more complicated since then, but I assume that’s still needed.

Yikes:
Where's jimyj when you need a recommendation?? jimyj would know what's needed. jimyj made nine posts on the 9th of April and in seven of them he was able to make a solid and consistent recommendation. I feel like jimyj is no longer giving an equitable amount of time to the GLK section. Disappointed :-(

One of the problems with the expensive multi-brand vehicle OBD scanners (I have Topdon AD 600 ($300) and AD900BT ($600) scanners) is that they list a long collection of "special service functions" such as ABS bleeding, but when you begin digging into the car brand you're interested in servicing, you discover that the service you want is available for some brands but not the one you're working on. An advantage of vehicle specific scanners, such as the Launch Elite 2.0 MB, is that the services listed exist for the specific vehicle. This Launch scanner does include ABS bleeding, although I have not used this function. For less than $200, the Launch is a very capable scanner. There are several forum threads that discuss coding and service applications for the Launch. My Topdon scanners get used on my Jeep and that's about it.

I always assumed if a car has ABS the fluid in the ABS needs to be flushed too in order to do a proper brake fluid change, in fact they have many other Mercedes Models listed under the Brake Bleed function, i just don't understand why the GLK wasn't, its not like its a very old model
but what you said about the ABS holding only a few ml of brake fluid makes sense now, i didn't know it was that small of an amount i assumed it was alot more, i opened the brake bleed function on my 2018 BMW M2 and the description said its only for when the ABS is replaced or repaired to remove air bubbles, implying its not for the routine bleed fluid change

yes I did, still no option for brake bleed for X204

Yeah I was hopeing I could use the Autel for all my and family's cars: Mercedes, BMW, Acura

When I hooked it up to my BMW M2 it had every service option available including Brake Bleed, so maybe the GLK just doesn't truely support/need Brake Bleed, the only way to be 100% sure is to maybe get MB Star/Xentry but Im not gonna do that for now (BTW have seen others buy Xentry copies from aliexpress for very cheap)

My G550's WIS procedure estimates the amount of fluid for replacement at about 1 liter. I bought 2 liters because I used the pressure cannister connected to the brake fluid reservoir flush method (the method in WIS). I used about 1.5 liters to ensure a full flush. Even if the ABS is 10% of the total brake system capacity, a full liter of fresh fluid reduces any moisture content residing in the ABS to a negligible amount once it mixes.

My (much more expensive) Launch tool (X431 Pro-something or other) also lists MB brake bleeding, but won't do it on a GLK (or most other models). Since this is the case across nearly every high end scanner I assume the issue is with something MB does that doesn't make this function available to any scan tool.

I agree that the old fluid left in the ABS wet side is minuscule, but it would be nice to be able to get it as well. Since most of us don't exercise our ABS systems much in the real world (living in the SW US, driving in snow is uncommon...) the old fluid could stay in there quite a while.

There was a thread on this subject some time ago (six months?) where it was suggested that a power-bleed (using positive pressure at the reservoir end) would do a better job of fully flushing the system, but I never saw any definitive info that would lead me to believe that it really flushes the ABS (the valving would have no reason to be open during the process).

I've seen processes for other "lesser vehicles" that allow system bleeding powered by the ABS pump - very cool, but apparently not something we can do with our MB vehicles. Sigh...

So only XENTRY can do it? Other than the manual way forum member chassis posted of course : )

That's the thread (started Dec 2024) I mentioned in my earlier Reply.

Here's a link to Reply #44 in that thread, whereby
@TimC300 explains their bleed process. The replies after #44 include snippets from a manual.

https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class...ml#post9085347

Okay, so there's a link in that thread to TimC300's dedicated post showing the bleed process, including photos, here:

The pressurized application of brake fluid at the reservoir is the method described in WIS for my G550. I used a Motive vessel and collection bottles -- worked well with virtually no mess.
