Exclamation 2013 GLK250 (X204) – Aftermarket "drop-in" TPMS sensors won't pair – Need advice

Two years ago I installed a set of aftermarket 433 MHz "plug-and-play" TPMS sensor set. The tire shop could never get the car to recognize them, so I just lived with the dash light.

Recently I bought a brand-new set of aftermarket 433 MHz sensors (different brand). Had them mounted during a tire change + alignment. The shop can see the sensor IDs on their scan tool, but they cannot get the sensors to communicate with the factory ECU. They tried for over an hour with multiple tools. The car never starts the relearn procedure, even after driving 30+ miles.

My questions:
  1. For a 2013 GLK250 Bluetec, do ANY aftermarket 433 MHz “direct-fit / pre-programmed / cloneable” sensors truly work as drop-in with the automatic relearn procedure, or do ALL aftermarket sensors require cloning the original OEM sensor IDs or a dealer-level programming step?
  2. If they must be cloned or programmed, is the dealer the only one who can do it, or can a good independent with Star/Xentry or a high-end Autel/Tec/Launch tool do it?
  3. I’ve been in the hidden instrument cluster menus and there is no visible TPMS relearn option. Is that normal for the X204?
OEM sensors (A0009054104 / 433 MHz) are insanely expensive, so I’m trying to avoid the dealership if there’s actually a reliable aftermarket option that works without cloning.

Anybody with a 2012–2015 GLK who has successfully installed aftermarket TPMS, please let me know which exact part number/brand you used and whether you had to clone or just drive it.

Thanks in advance!

On this website, when you read through a thread ... just below the last post, there will be a suggested "Related Thread"

Here's the one listed after your post, and there are some recommendations for TPMS there.
( although it's for E-Class (W213) 2016 - 2023 )

If “Check Tire Pressure” from the menu does not cause the system to start a relearn of the sensors, anyone with a Mercedes specific scan too can restart the TPMS module which should work. We had this problem when replacing one sensor on a damaged wheel years ago. No dealer intervention is needed.

I have a 2010 W204 and have replaced all of the sensors.

1st time was when a sensor battery died. I bought a generic sensor on ebay and it worked perfectly. had a tire shop swap it out and it linked up to the car within driving 2 minutes. It was automatic and I did not have to do anything.

After that I found a seller on ebay selling Mercedes "new-take off sensors" so I bought 4 and they work perfectly. I originally just bought 1 to replace a dead sensor myself. Then shortly after another sensor died so i repeated the process. I swapped the sensors myself using a floor jack to push the tire off the rim and was able to stick my hand inside and replace them.

Then I was having 4 new tires installed so I had the generic sensor replaced with a Mercedes branded sensor, and had the last old sensor replaced.

heres what the generic sensor looked like. Its not the exact listing i bought from.

Heres the exact listing for the MB sensors I bought and have installed right now: Even though they were listed as new I went ahead and bought the Schrader rebuild kits to replace the stem, nuts, gasket, cap and valve core.

I looked up the parts diagrams. Not sure of your vin so i picked GLK250 Bluetec.

It shows the same sensors I used as working.
