Hi all,

Yesterday I noticed my doors were not locked (door pins were in the upright position) however both side mirrors were in the closed position. I was outside the vehicle and noticed this when walking by it. Is there any such scenario when this would occur? I thought this was odd.

You can unlock the car through and open the back door or tailgate and the car can unlock but the mirrors don't open. Mirrors only open when you open the front doors after unlocking. At least in 2014...

or you could have just accidentally closed the mirrors without locking....

Oh yeah, I forgot about the opening tailgate scenario but it locks immediately after closing the tailgate. Anyway, I did not do that. Also, I never close the mirrors only.

This is a strange one.

If the car gets "unlocked" the mirrors will only fold out after driver's door is opened - so put your head to rest..

mirrors also fold out when front passenger door is opened -- at least on our gl550

Not true for my 2017 GLS. When I unlock either with the key fob or via keyless go (put hand on handle) the doors unlock and the mirrors fold out.

even if you put hand on rear door handles? in my case doors unlocked but mirrors stay folded.

can't remember if this is a changeable setting in the menu though

On mine, the mirrors unfold ONLY if one of the front door is opened.

On mine the mirrors unfold even if the rear door handles are touched.

Maybe it is a setting.

Ditto - I just tried it on the rear door (driver side) and the mirrors unfolded.
Dunno what setting makes them unfold only with the front doors and not the rears.

Maybe it's a question of region... Mine was bought in France.

My old GL350 would only unfold the mirrors when either front door was touched. My GLS450s unfold the mirror when either the front or rear doors are touched.

FWIW as i mentioned in earlier post mine is 16 gl550. it could be a change from GL to GLS

The other item I want to correct is, opening the tailgate on my GLS does not open the door locks or mirrors. As mentioned, there appears to have been a change with the GLS.

My GLS, the mirrors will fold after locking the car via tailgate, press touch point of a handle (front or rear) or key. And unfold when unlocking the car. The mirrors still remain fold position when only opening the tailgate. All of these are based on the mirrors fold setting with active.
