MBUSA is cutting all V8 models for 2022 except the S Class and S Class Maybach models.
All existing order will be converted to other models by the end of this month.

Hmm. I hope they let the 450 get the E-ABC, exclusive trim, and executive rear seat plus instead.

My dealer just called to tell me my 2022 GLS63 order would be converted to a 2022 GLS450. I said absolutely not.

Sorry to hear. Haven't seen anything similar from Porsche or BMW yet.

Is there a reason given, officially in writing from MBUSA or MB AG?

Source is jalopnik quoting an MB leak. Reason given is "supply chain".

Nice guy says, "Gee it's tough out there."

Not so nice guy (me) says, "Mercedes isn't capable of fighting its way out of a wet paper bag."

I read all v8's except for the s580 will be suspended until 2023. If in fact true this is quite significant. Additionally, if this is only impacting Mercedes makes one wonder what the hell is going on over there? It's a mess.

Maybe they realized they couldn’t meet fleet emissions standards too.

Yeah could be. They already owe $2.2 billion for the previous scandal and are under active criminal investigation in Germany for that scandal. This could be another cost cutting measure.

Maybe its the Alabama plant. I’ve read that their quality control isn’t doing too well over there.

(Yes I know they only produce SUVs over there. It’s a joke Karen)

Is Mercedes the only maker in this situation?

The topic has been on bimmerpost for a while with no comments about BMW following MB’s action.

Just posted this on rennlist so will need time to get some Porsche owner comments.

Hopefully people who have one of these newer MB V8 vehicles will take note of how (much more) valuable their vehicles are about to become (especially in today's market where used cars cost more than new cars!).... It's okay if you don't want to sell it for a profit, but certainly don't ever trade one in for a loss!

I haven’t read of any other manufacturer doing this at this point yet. I do have close friend at a GM dealership that has said they are having trouble getting just about any car (3/4 sell before they make it too them) they have not seen any cuts on a specific model.
Again, I find it hard that MB would cut out the higher end AMG cars first. I figured they had the highest profit percentage on these cars and therefore wanted to sell more. Heck, a year or two ago they would stick an AMG badge on just about anything. Even those tiny weed eater motors in some cars.

This definitely has to be fleet emissions related. The only reason why the S580 and S580 Maybach got through was probably because they were the only 2022 model in production already at this point. It's definitely not just "supplies."

Still nothing on bimmerpost or rennlist. My guess is, so far, BMW and Porsche are managing their "supply chains" better than the slipshod crew in Stuttgart.

A trusted enthusiast/insider on Instagram is stating a reveal is planned for the GT63e on September 1st despite the suspension. Maybe some insight into MY23? Perhaps the Electrified V8 is a more suitable engine for emissions? Who knows at this point.

I’m leaning towards supply chain issue, as not all countries have the same emissions standards, yet the cut is world wide not just USA.

I was at my dealership earlier this week, which is also next to Audi, Porsche, and several others (a car dealership park area). Lots are bare folks, especially the German brands. BMW had a few more than the other, but not by much. Porsche was totally empty, MB didn’t even have enough new ones to fill the showroom floor and therefore had a coupe of used older gle in there. 0% GLS’s and GLE’s. In fact in the “G” category, only one GLC. Even the bare bones GLB models were used ones.

Ford dealer - only 15 new deliveries to them since June.

Jeep - less than 10 since July.

Porsche - 0 since July.

I’m in the DC area, a major sales market.

Used market? In 2017 I was considering trading my beloved 2015 VW GTI for a new T’reg as they were cutting them out from the US market. Car is fully loaded “Autobahn” model. Paid around $35k for it new from this same dealerships. In 2017 they offers me $12,500 for it as a trade with just 30k miles, in flawless condition (not modified or screwed with, 100% adult owned and maintained beyond spec). I laughed and instead bought my current 2014 W212 as a CPO with 22k miles for $32k, roughing 50% off msrp (local lease return).

fiddling with the idea of replacing the GTI this week for a used Jeep Wrangler Unlimited as our new “toy”. Have been offered nearly $18k for the GTI, which now has 64k miles, needs new tires, carbon clean up, and general tip-tail service, A 6 year old VW…

ill believe the $2b fine from Germany gets paid when I see it. I seriously doubt the German government is going to attempt to hamper the success of Mercedes Benz. Germany’s main contribution to the global economy and national pride is basically just their cars. My opinion only, that fine is as worthless as the paper it’s written on, all for show, and likely 10x’s that in tax incentives issued to them from the government to help spur more emissions friendly engine designs in general. When it comes to government - there are always two sets of books!

My 580 in obsidian arrived today at the dealership. Interestingly it was built a month early and was not supposed to arrive until October in opposite of what is occurring with everything else being delayed…strange but glad I ordered when I did. Will post up some better pics when I take delivery in a week or two. Fresh off the transport from the dealer advisor.
