Nice guy says, "Gee it's tough out there."
Not so nice guy (me) says, "Mercedes isn't capable of fighting its way out of a wet paper bag."

(Yes I know they only produce SUVs over there. It’s a joke Karen)

Again, I find it hard that MB would cut out the higher end AMG cars first. I figured they had the highest profit percentage on these cars and therefore wanted to sell more. Heck, a year or two ago they would stick an AMG badge on just about anything. Even those tiny weed eater motors in some cars.

I was at my dealership earlier this week, which is also next to Audi, Porsche, and several others (a car dealership park area). Lots are bare folks, especially the German brands. BMW had a few more than the other, but not by much. Porsche was totally empty, MB didn’t even have enough new ones to fill the showroom floor and therefore had a coupe of used older gle in there. 0% GLS’s and GLE’s. In fact in the “G” category, only one GLC. Even the bare bones GLB models were used ones.
Ford dealer - only 15 new deliveries to them since June.
Jeep - less than 10 since July.
Porsche - 0 since July.
I’m in the DC area, a major sales market.
Used market? In 2017 I was considering trading my beloved 2015 VW GTI for a new T’reg as they were cutting them out from the US market. Car is fully loaded “Autobahn” model. Paid around $35k for it new from this same dealerships. In 2017 they offers me $12,500 for it as a trade with just 30k miles, in flawless condition (not modified or screwed with, 100% adult owned and maintained beyond spec). I laughed and instead bought my current 2014 W212 as a CPO with 22k miles for $32k, roughing 50% off msrp (local lease return).
fiddling with the idea of replacing the GTI this week for a used Jeep Wrangler Unlimited as our new “toy”. Have been offered nearly $18k for the GTI, which now has 64k miles, needs new tires, carbon clean up, and general tip-tail service, A 6 year old VW…
ill believe the $2b fine from Germany gets paid when I see it. I seriously doubt the German government is going to attempt to hamper the success of Mercedes Benz. Germany’s main contribution to the global economy and national pride is basically just their cars. My opinion only, that fine is as worthless as the paper it’s written on, all for show, and likely 10x’s that in tax incentives issued to them from the government to help spur more emissions friendly engine designs in general. When it comes to government - there are always two sets of books!
