2022 GLS 450 with Tow Pkg--Brake Controller?
2022 GLS 450 with Tow Pkg--Brake Controller?
Hello, I recently purchased a 22' GLS 450 with tow package installed--receiver hitch and the 7 pin plug. Mercedes Parts Departments at two local dealers do not know what should be ordered for the electric brake setup. My sales person spoke with his head mechanic and suggested I go to U-Haul to pick up trailer brakes, and another wondered if the braking system is already integrated in the system, and will activate when the trailer is plugged in. Does anyone have experience with the 2022's? Thank you for any insight you may offer.
I can't imagine the 2022s are any different than the other x167s. If you have the tow package, you should be pre-wired for a brake controller.
There are a few threads on here about it. Longest one is here: https://mbworld.org/forums/gls-class...-towing-3.html

Its a standard 7-pin brake plug that you can buy from amazon.
My brake is connected to my bike hitch that has its own brake lights.

To clarify, since the OP doesn't seem well versed on towing, the 7 pin connector without anything else will operate the brake lights. However, it will not operate trailer electric brakes without a brake controller. There is wiring for a wired brake controller in the vehicle already, or there are wireless easy install brake controllers as well (I have no experience with those, but they exist).
