Voice output doesn't stay at the adjusted volume

Hi All, I'm using navigation on my 2023 GLS450 and I am trying to dynamically change the volume of the voice output. For example, with navigation, when it speaks I turn down the volume knob and it decreases. The next time it gives directions, it is back to the previous volume level, mid-flight. Has anyone else experienced this issue before?

I can’t recall on mine, but I do tend to say “hey mercedes, turn off navigation voice” and she turns it off. Maybe ask her to turn down navigation voice level?

Do you think that by virtue of having Mercedes turn it down instead of me turning the knob will have a different result?

Not sure but worth a shot. I suspect there is a more permanent setting somewhere in the setting for the voice volume. Just have to fiddle with it…

It's more this scenario: driving back home, kid falls asleep, and I need to (on the fly) lower the navigation volume. I'll test your theory out, but it's still not ideal given my use case.

What I tend to do as default setting is have the voice guidance turned off, nav screen in the center background on the dash along with the main screen, and just pay attention / glance at it here and there. It shows you on the top of the infotainment screen how many miles to go before your next turn, and what exit number to take if on the freeway, along with what lane to be in. I just take a mental note and keep my eye on how much further to go…

Does this occur only with the OEM navigation or Carplay/ Android Auto? If it's with OEM navigation, then maybe consider switching to CP/AA because I know both of them allow dynamic volume changes during navigation prompts.

Just as another point of reference, I do not have the issue. A few weeks ago I changed my profile to the one established with the Mercedes me Connect app and noticed the navigation volume was low. I went to the manual and, as it said, turned the volume up via volume knob while the nice lady was speaking. Volume has stayed the same ever since.

I have this issue in Android Auto, but I see no settings that could indicate it overriding Mercedes' volume. Dynamic volume is off in my vehicle.

That's odd then. Maybe try removing your phone from the vehicle and your car from your phone and then pair them again just to see if that might "reset" things. You could also try soft resetting MBUX:

Google maps also has the mute/unmute/alerts for voice navigation right on the main map screen. Waze has the same. It's not the same as turning the volume down though.

Is this with Android Auto or Mercedes Navigation?

I didn't add my experience to the original thread, so here's my comment.

There seems to be more than one voice reply sources.
Guidance instructions, reply to your request such as "turn on massage," and more.

For instance, adjusting NAV guidance volume doesn't affect "OK I'm turning on the passenger massage" or "I can't help you with that right now."

Also. You have to adjust the volume exactly while she's speaking or it won't take.

To confirm, if turning it down exactly while she speaks and it still doesn't take, isn't that a different issue? Given that's the problem I'm having, any thoughts there?

It sounds like you've eliminated my simplistic solution.
I was hoping it would work for you.

This is a tricky one, I don't think it is wise to simply reset factory settings of the infotainment system especially since it doesn't guarantee it will fix it but that might be something to try.

I actually had the firmware for MBUX updated recently too, and that also did not fix the issue. This feels like a bug specific between Android Auto with Google Maps Navigation and MBUX.

Nah, it's been going on for 2 years now, so most likely not.
