Rear Passenger Door Weather Strips Out of Line

Hi guys

The back edge of the weather seals on the rear passenger doors dont line up well at all with the rear quarter ones, they’re high and the shape is just wrong, or the fit is all off, anyone else have this and had it corrected, vehicle is a late 2021 AMG GLS63.

Ive attached a couple of pictures, they dont show it that well, and too much reflection so apologies for that, it’s much more visible in real life, really poor panel fit up from Mercedes Benz.

Thanks
Carl

2021 GLS 450 & 23 GLS 450. Have a Holden Commodore, Jeep, truck, and more
I have a misalignment issue on my drivers rear door but it is the metal on the door where the vertical edge meets the curve for the wheel opening. Unfortunately mine requires reshaping the metal and thus paint etc. The dealership bodyshop has agreed to make the repairs under warranty, but I have been dragging my feet since I have had so many mixed bodyshop experiences that I am dreading the process and results. I cannot imagine they would not be able to resolve this without bodywork and should be willing to do so under warranty. To me it looks like those trim pieces are possibly defected or installed improperly and just need to be replaced or reinstalled.

It seems to me that I have seen a tech service bulletin for that issue.

Any chance you have any info on that bulletin please, it’s in tomorrow for some other bits and they’re going to look at these trims, so some ammunition would be helpful

Thanks

I looked for that technical bulletin before I posted earlier and couldn't find it.
I hope it's not my imagination. Maybe you could ask the dealership if they'd seen one.

Took it to my local MB dealer and despite showing them how the trims on one of their very own GLS’s fit perfectly they said mine were fit correctly and there’s nothing they could do, but they offered to sell me replacements that they’d happily quote to fit too.

It was night and day between mine and the other one, but I didn’t buy it there so they weren’t bothered.

Could one of you guys be able to take a photo on the edge of the door looking into that weather strip so I can see how it’s meant to look when the strips look when they line up properly please, these are mine.

The first pic, left had door is better than the other in terms of alignment but neither are what I’d call correctly flush, like I’ve seen on the dealer forecourts.

A comparison with trims that are right would be really helpful

Thanks

Do you have the ability to measure paint depth? Electronically? With this issue and the instability your feeling along with tire mismatch (I know of two London MB dealerships that I dropped into last time there two weeks ago that can get the appropriate tires)…I’m now thinking something could be off with that vehicle (damage) and was not reported.

Each part should have part numbers along with production dating. If you ever pull them off and they are newer than the make of the car…or if the rear quarter are newer…then something is not true to the car.

Hard to tell…but in one photo I see a pretty large amount of orange peel that is typically indicative of a repain or clear respray.

Thanks for the picture, I can see the rubber seal seems to tuck up differently underneath the trim strip but I doubt that would affect the angle of the strip itself, yours seems to sit parallel with the vertical trim whereas mine seems to tuck in too tight then sit off at the top, the angles different, that’s what I’m seeing on the vehicle with the doors closed. I wish I knew how to remove them safely.

In terms of damage, I intend to have it inspected but its proving difficult to take it to Mercedes so will find a well respected paint shop nearby.

It needed some adjustment of the tailgate recently, which was done under warranty and Mercedes didn’t mention any suspicion of damage, they had to replace a motor back there and did remove some trim pieces I believe so would’ve been quick to comment had damage been spotted.

I do think having it checked is a good idea, but Im not that surprised by the mismatched tyres, the main dealer just offered me Michelin knowing I need continental to match the rear, and would happily fit those Michelins if I accepted their high price. They don’t care about matching brand/spec, or their service team don’t know, or probably both.
