The gesture control takes over the space of a sunglass holder. I'd prefer sunglass holder over gesture control.

I have no idea what gesture control is, but it sounds awful. Going to check that tomorrow. Thanks!

Hardly awful. Being able to use hand motions to control favorite settings, having lights come on when you reach into the empty passenger seat at night, having a more interactive infotainment system are all a bit more useful than a hole to stick glasses in that won't accommodate larger lenses.

Interesting. It appears I have the “hey Mercedes” voice assistant, but not the interior assistant gesture control.

still, no sunglasses holders. I do t even understand where they would be. I’ve heard some people have them in front of the rearview mirror, and also in place of grab handles?

According to this thread, the sunglass holder was a delete starting in the 2022 model year (regardless of how you optioned the car):

That explains it! Either where the door pulls are or behind the rear mirror, do they look like they easily retrofitted? Or are they integrated into something more complex?

I don't think it's possible to retrofit based on what's there now. I usually end up using one of the cup holders as a temporary resting spot for the sunglasses!

Ironically, I’m talking to a buddy of mine who is a parts Director at Mercedes dealer and Mercedes has discontinued it even as a service part. Apparently they can’t figure out a way to make it not rattle so they are just omitting it now.

Weird they couldn't solve the rattle, but glad they did something about it.

It seems that the 2022 GLS450 doesn't come with a built-in sunglasses holder. Mercedes-Benz removed this feature starting with the 2022 model year, possibly due to customer complaints about rattling noises. You could look into aftermarket options, such as clip-on holders for the sun visor or dashboard-mounted holders, which are widely available.

In my case, Aviator glasses rattle, but RayBan's don't, FWIW.
I hate rattles.
My wife likes to carry an empty cassette case filled with quarters, just out of reach in the glove box. I proposed a solution and she's accommodating me.

That would drive me nuts too. I'm glad I don't have to bother with change anymore now that all the meters in my area only accept credit cards.

If I have anything that might rattle in the door bins, I put them in a soft case or pouch. For example, a flashlight is stored in a soft case and I also have spare water bottles just in case someone is super thirsty, and those are stored in fabric pullstring pouches.

Bollocks.

It is a cost reduction.

Issue with built in sunglasses holders is they don't fit many sunglasses. I haven't had a pair of sunglasses that fit in the overhead holder of one of my cars in a long time, so the loss of it doesn't bother me,

I also employ microfiber towels and leather pouches.
Also a microfiber in the sunglass holder.
Whatever it takes, whatever is available. Just quit rattling!

As some point they even deleted the door handle lights, did they add it back yet?

Yes. But after using gesture control for quite some time, I now prefer the interior assistant over a sunglass holder which was easily remedied with a $5 sun visor clip from Amazon.

My preferred gesture is to activate my massage seats. I also just learned that the gesture control will activate the most recent massage setting. I prefer Wave so I have that one set up for gesture control.

Oh I thought that thing only turns on the passenger light to see the glovebox (I believe that is how they advertise it) meant to be used to turn on the light so you can see the glovebox.

Yes that function is part of it as well as turning on map lights, and I think it controls the hovering of the main icons when you're pointing at the center screen.

This video sums it up pretty well:
