New GLS 450D owner

Hi,

I have finally pulled the trigger and booked my GLS450D in India. Here in India we pay a lot more for the car while getting fewer features than what you people might get. We also do not get options to choose from nor can we select the interior and exterior colours. With each exterior colour, there is a fixed interior colour. While I am excited about my new car, I wanted to know what all to expect from this behemoth. I currently own a BMW 630D GT and am quite happy with the way the car drives, but flinch every time I have to send the car for the small niggles that come up every now and then. So far my experience with my older VW family cars has been stellar compared to what BMW has made me go through.

Having said that - I have been wondering -should I brace myself for something peculiar what a Mercedes GLS450D might throw at me? The car comes with no rear seat ventilation/heating, heated/cooled cup holders, HUD, 3D view speedo (though not sure whether any other car other than the S has it), real leather, cooled glovebox, twin sunshades, massaging seats, or even their Air balance package or energising package - which they do provide in the GLE. For all the features that are missing, with a limited options of interior and exterior colours ( Just 5 options to choose from - Black and blue cars with brown interiors, White and Grey cars with beige interiors and silver car with black interiors. And NO - we can not choose the inserts for wood, or piano black or anything - it just comes with the striped piano black finish) - we are paying close to $197,000!! Expensive car by any standards.

Any how - here are a few things I would like to know if someone has kitted their cars with.

1. Is there a way I can change the front grill? It looks ghastly, and to be honest the earlier one looked much better. What we get 4 slats in satin silver which look like cheap plastic. Maybe something in dark chrome or even regular chrome would look better IMHO. Is there a way I can get that from some place?

2. Since the car's running boards are more of a hinderance than being any help while getting in and out of the car, I have been thinking of getting a Maybach type automatic deploying side step. Is it advisable?

3. A dashcam. Front and back. As far as I know - Mercedes doesn't provide one (though I always wonder - why can't the car record when it already has cameras all around) or does it?

I understand these questions might be quiet common for most of the folks here - but since I am a newbie - I thought to take up this opportunity to say Hi and ask all the questions to put me at ease.

CheerS!!

Hi,

Has no one really installed the Maybach-esque auto side step to their car here?

Really want to know about the pros and cons of it.

Hi,

Been over a month since I purchased the car - and to be honest I am still on the fence on whether I love it or not. I like it for sure!

Few things which have kept me scratching my head in the car and I would definitely appreciate inputs from the experts here.

1. How do I change the TPMS read out to Psi? In India we are used to seeing the tyre pressure in Psi - and so are our drivers. If there is a way to have the read out in Psi - it would be immensely helpful.
2. Is there any other way to check out the tyre pressure other than fiddling with the weirdly sensitive touch buttons on the steering? Only way I have been able to get there is - hit the home button - then slide with multiple failed attempts to go to the service screen option on the dash - and see the tyre pressure - that too in kPa.
3. Does the car have auto braking while reversing? I know for a fact that it brakes (real hard) when something comes close in the front - but what about braking while reversing? does it do that as well?
4. It seems quite a herculean task to connect your phone when you are sitting at the back seat. Any easier way - or step by step guide to do the same?
5. How do I connect the headphones to the car's rear entertainment screen??
6. The rear entertainment screens simply switch on even when there is no one sitting on the rear screens - it just happens randomly. anyway to prevent that from happening?
Really looking forward to learning the car a bit more - as this car doesn't come with a "how to" kind of videos on board or even on YouTube like BMW cars do. Makes life just a little bit simpler.

Cheers

Hi All

I am facing a peculiar problem with my GLS450D.

The easy entry function in the car has not been working from quiet sometime. We have refreshed the system software a couple of times. Have changed the memory seat module with the dealer's demo car to see whether it was the culprit. Also the memory seats also malfunction more often than not!

Let me explain the problem in detail
1. The easy entry exit option is ON from the MBUX screen. It should push back the seat and raise the steering every time you unlock the car and open the door OR switch off the car and open the door. This hasn't been working in my car from quiet sometime.
2. When I press the memory seat button on my car - it should ideally take my seat to the setting that I have saved for myself. In my car the seat raises to the maximum and comes all the way forward (almost crushing the family jewels) and then goes back halfway and stops. When I long press the button - the seat goes back someway and then starts moving forward again.

I am totally clueless what should be done now - and the dealership people are in the same boat.

Can someone give me some pointers?

1. Did you try enabling and re-enabling it? Sometimes that fixes it.
2. Did you try resetting the memory function by saving a new position?

Well those were the first few things I always did - but the problem still persists. This reminds me - earlier you had to enable it each time you sit in the car as it would always go back to off - but then it completely defeats the purpose of having an easy entry feature as you would have to go in the car, start it and enable it every time!

I have tried resetting the memory function quiet a few times already - and still it malfunctions.

Very strange why it will reset to default, the setting should stick, time to bring the vehicle in for a software update to fix it or something, something isn't right.

Start/stop resets every startup yes but the setting to keep easy entry on should not, try creating a new profile but probably won't do much.
