MY CLK55 AMG vs. M3
A FRIEND OF MINE GOT A 2002 M3 6-SPEED AND WE WERE COMING HOME TOGETHER (SEPERATE CARS) FROM MANHATTAN ON THE PARKWAY. WE CAME TO A 10MPH ROLE AND NAILED 'EM. I WAS SHIFTING MY 55 MANUALLY AND STARTED THE ROLE IN FIRST GEAR AFTER SOME TIRE SPIN I NAILED SECOND PERFECTLY BEFORE I HIT THE CUTTER AND SPUN AND HOOKED HAD ABOUT A CAR AND A HALF ON HIM TILL ABOUT 80MPH. AFTER THAT IT WAS BYE-BYE M3 ALL THE WAY TO 140MPH I HAD AT LEAST 4-5 CARS ON HIM. HE COULDN'T BELEIEVE IT, HE WAS TALKING SO MUCH B.S BEFORE ABOUT HOW MUCH FASTERTHE M3 IS. AMG RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1) easy kill from a "roll" (look at the power the '55 makes vs. the M3 at low RPM)
2) you didn't nail any gear "perfectly... the computer did... and if his car is as new as it seems.... its hosed.
how the hell do you "hit the cutter?"
ditto the caps-lock thing.

I hope your 55 beat the M3 since you paid about $20k more than he did....don't get me wrong I love MB and the 55's but as far as performance goes and the price you have to pay for it, I hate to say it but BMW kills MB on this...just look at the M5 compared to the 55....M5 standard has every option you could ever want, navigation, xenons, suede headliners, close to 400Hp, 18"....etc....

The AMG air filter box holds two filters, so i pulled the stock AMG filters and replaced them with two K&N filters. To be honest with you I didn't feel any crazy gains but you definetley hear more air being sucked in especially at higher RPM.

Price Diff.
Defenitley true about the price difference can't argue with you there, except for the xenons they do come standerd. The M5 and M3 are both great cars, just because I personelly like Mercedes better doesn't mean much to somebody else. I like M, I love AMG.

Valentino I completely agree with you, I just wish MB could compete with BMW a little more as far as performance goes, I also like M but LOVE AMG, I don't know why, Mercedes just seem to stand out more...sorry if I came out like an ***.......I currently have a CLK500 on order and I am debating about getting the M3 instead so thats why I was so jumpy, my friends argue with me that I am crazy not to get the M3 and that the new CLK looks like a C-class.....we'll have to wait and see what the CLK I ordered looks like for me to make a final decision.........

The M3 is a nice car and I think everyone who bought a CLK55AMG pondered the same exact thing before buying. For me, all it took was closing the doors on both cars. Just listen to it and you'll immediately hear and feel the difference in material and assembly quality. I saw too many bare painted metal nooks and crannies in the M3, and the leather on the MB appealed better to my taste. True, the M3 is a tad better performing stock out of the showroom, but after I put 19s and better rubber on, no M3 can touch my CLK55. See, if I were between the age of 25 and 40, I would have just gone to the BMW dealer and drove away with the M3; swept by all the marketing and advertising hype that appeals to that age group. I'm 51 and with age comes a little reason and decision-making maturity that allowed me to make a sound comparison (actually I also looked at the M5 and still opted for the CLK). I'm not saying BMW owners are unreasonable and immature, just that the MBs perhaps tend to appeal to an older market.
