SL55 vs. 308 and 355
I was blasting along a favorite 4 lane twisty mountain road, when I spy 2 Italian beauties several corners away. They were obviously going for it judging by the way that they were apexing the corners and trying to string them together. As always, I am up for a little fun...........so I punch it a little harder and reel them in.
As soon as they saw the SL 'Panzer Wagon' closing FAST, they started to push a little harder. They were running 355 then 308. In a matter of seconds I am on them and shadowing their moves. I can tell that they are holding me up, but the corners are fairly tight. As we come out of a 2nd gear corner, I can see that the road opens into several 4th gear sweepers. We enter a left hander at around 115-120....I pop the SL in to the right lane.........pass both.....apex the corner just right and am gone.
As I arrive at the next town and get gas...I am just about done when the 2 Fcars pull in. It turns out that I knew both of them from the FCA. They both had to comment on how the SL looked when it went around them (totally flat and blindingly quick), and that they stood no chance.
Just old tech v new tech..........

The 355 isn't that strong of a car, only 375Hp, I was extremely suprised when I raced one, droped a gear and even though he was pulling on me, it wasn't as drastic as you'd expect. Nice kills on Italy's finest.

I think that the E60 is a brilliant drive, but I haven't had the opportunity to drive one..........yet! They will be a great performance bargain in 3-4 years.

How about that "yes" vote to start using photo radar on hwy 101 in Scottsdale? Can't even wring out our cars at 1am with radars all over... Costing Scottsdale $640K+ just to set up the 6 or so cameras from Scots Rd to 90th St. Of course the 1 fatality/week may drop a little. We'll see.

Don't get me going on that!!! They are spending the $640K for one reason.............to raise revenue. If you think its any more than that.......
I doubt if the fatality rate will drop unless they start training drivers better. I remember all that crap about Audi's accellerating blindly....and the Expeditions blowing tires..........I was on the 101 on by Ducati coming up on a giant Ford SUV(blocking the left lane as usual)......as I move to go around it the right rear tire blows. I get pelted with rubber and I noticed the driver (who was on the phone).........nail the brakes AND crank the steering wheel. The obvious happened..........the SUV slid off into the median and began to tumble. I downshifted and got out of there. I saw the lady and the kids, with air bags a blazin' go over and over. I hope that they were OK, but if that illustrates the driving ability of our average person..........a few speed cameras won't do a thing except have all the Scottsdale housewives making sure that their hair and make up are perfect..........since they might be photographed.
