04 GTO vs 05 Vert CLK55 AMG
so i was able to take out the clk55 tonight and race my friends A4 04 GTO with intake, long tube headers and a predator tune. the clk is completely bone stock. i ran him 4 times, three from a dig and once from a 20 roll.
on 2 out of the 3 runs from a dig, we both hit it at the same time and i was able to pull him a car length up to 120. the last dig run he took the jump, while i spun a lot. he won by a car at 120. now on to the 20 roll, we both hit it at the same time and at about 90, i pulled him a half car and then another half a car at around 120. so not bad for a car that weighs 100 pounds more and is down like 30hp, not bad at all .
also later on, he admitted to me, that if we would of kept going, i would of pulled him even more
ps: i was in sport mode with the esp off

i got a question for you man, when i was at WOT and i would shift into the next gear the car felt like it lagged or bogged a little bit? i ask because whenever this would happen he would inch up on me but then i would pull away in the upper rpm's. my friend says it could be the computer doin that but i don't know if its true or not

Honestly, with this car you're better advised just to leave it in drive and let it shift itself...I've tested it both ways, and letting it shift itself always nets better times. You probably could've widened your lead to another length or two!!

No, don't get that....the 1-2 does seem to kind of no so much lag as, well, kind of rev-match to make it smoother, but this does't seem to be an issue at higher speeds/gears (and really, to me it doesn't seem to be slowing things down low either)...
Having said that, I think that the 209s have a few more bells and whistles on the tranny...I think there's a sport mode or something similar...(?) Might ping the CLK55 forum on this one, because mine's a 208! :-)

my tranny shifts pretty fast w/ no lag.
what u r describing kinda sounds like the tranny (clutch plates) are slipping because the rpm keep going up after/during the shift

GTO with those mods should do better... but then it comes down to the driver.
CLK55 cabrio is no joke... very nice car!
GTO is a nice car, but weighs so much, but really cheap to mod.
nice write up!

I had an 02 C5 non Z06, 6spd. manual and it would do that same thing- sorta like the clutch plates were slipping. I bought it brand new, and that was happening withing the first year- so less than 15k miles. It would sorta keep reving a little like youall were describing while it lagged (kinda like the clutch was not disengaged all the way.)
