750i 4.8 vs C32 (with pullies)
5fwy south bound to 605 North bound intersection (Downey Area)
I was cruising down the freeway and I take the on ramp to the 605 north.
For those who know the area, the on ramp is shaped like "P"
Its a long sweeping right turn and then you are merging on to the 605 north
Bimmer is right on my *** for NO reason.. I had 2 cars in front of me and they were going slow.
I figure.. by the xenon lights and the " out light ring" on the headlamps that it was a newer BMW. I knew it was not a 3, I thought maybe 5 or 7.
I decided to shift to 3rd and was ready to merge left. The bimmer also was prepared and followed really closely and was really being pushy.
once we were merging on the 605 fwy... I shifted to 2nd at about 55mph... I took OFF..
by the time I was ending 3rd gear close to 100+, the Bimmer was about 5 cars lenghts back and I just let off the gas.
I slowed down to about 75. It was a bronze color 750i with new paper plates. I could not tell anything about the age of the driver.
However the did 750 even out with me and I waited for him to pull... he didn't.
After a few secs he took off and I didn't want to waste anymore gas.
He quickly got off on the next exit by cutting people off and really looking like a "novice" driver.
This was not much of a race and I was in front and I had the reaction advantage.
However I just felt the driver of the 750i was a bit rude...and probably was surprised to see the results.
I can't wait to run against a 550... which would be a very good drivers race.

A little over a year back, I went to one of those BMW driver's days benefitting the Susan G. Komen (sp?) Breast Cancer Foundation. I drove a number of BMW's that day, including the 4.8 750i. What struck me about that car was how incredibly quiet it was inside, even when under WOT. A really nice car - but I HATED the iDrive. My lady and I got in a little bit of trouble for deviating from the established driving course and putting additional miles on the car. At least they didn't figure out that much of the extra was put on in a big parking lot hidden from view by a building (except for the cloud of tire smoke wafting up from behind)
the outcome is a given....
what I was surprised the driver was really trying. I really didn't want to waste my time and 91 Shell octane..
it was late and there was no need... but I had to give him a quick "101 lesson"
... by the way did you went to the SUMMERFEST O.C.- S.Cali BBQ MEET 8/26/06.....??

Turns out you're right - I looked at the dates and I was mistaken because it could not have been the new engine. That didn't stop the car from producing some grins for us, though! The car we drove looked like the one in this pic (in back on the left):

no.. I was not able to make it..
I'm going to the 9/15 fontana track to watch the MB's run...
I won't be able to stay too long, but I will be there around 2pm.
I wanted to sign up and run my little C32, but I'm off to Maui next week and my boss would not give me another day off on 9/15.
however I'm able to sneak out to watch, since I work nearby.
