997S v. 2 55k's
lined up at a light w/ a stock (no hint of any mods) cls55. light turns green, we both launch, up to 70-75 (end of my 2nd gear) we are dead even, there isnt an inch in it. after i shift into 3rd he begins to walk me, by around 100 he is about 1 length ahead. next light i end up behind an e55 that was chasing us somewhere in the back
, again, 1st and 2nd we are dead even (he didnt pull, since he started in front) after my 2-3 shift he began pulling. this is the same exact thing that happened when i raced my cousin in his cls63.btw,
both the drivers were cool, i rolled down my window and had a little chat w/ both
i dont mind losing drag races

most sports cars are geared such that only one shift is required to reach 60mph. though i must admit 75mph in 2nd gear is impressive. and if you think that's amazing, a Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 doesn't have to shift at all...i believe 1st gear tops out at 68mph. on the other end of the spectrum are the cars that must shift into 3rd gear before reaching 60mph (the VW R32 Golf is a good example of such a car). that's why these cars look bad in the 0-60mph test. if we used 0-55mph (instead of 0-60mph) as a standard benchmark, these sports cars with extremely aggressive gearing would be on par with many sports cars that ARE capable of getting to 60mph without shifting twice.

While I was learning how to drive stick on my friend's BoxterS, he never let me take it even close to redline. I would have to shift like 4 times to keep him happy.

the reason behind that (at least my reason) is b/c if you miss, lets say 3rd and go into 1st the engine wont go boooooom. if youre anywhere near redline and you miss a gear you'll blow the engine
when i was teaching my gf how to drive stick in my e36 m3 (she was 15 at the time) she missed 3rd and hit 1st, if she was near redline........
yeah, its cant be that good
im thinking of replacing the clutch w/ a high performance aftermarket unit when the time comes.
the cls didnt have much trouble launching, i just launched pretty hard, my cousins 63 has 305 rears so im pretty sure he was hooked up
shouldnt an slk55 beat a 996 c2
i raced 2 in my clk55 and beat them both from a roll
