Ok let me make this short.

This is NOT a KILL story, I do not want to offend anyone here.. this happened less than 1 hour ago, a short race with a Mercedes-Benz SL55 and my old BMW

Took my gf for a little drive in my old school supercharged 540 (picking her up from her house), got off her community, made a left at a light and follows a current Mercedes SL class on my left, and we both came to a stop light.

I look at the driver (40ish man), he look at me & my car and then talked to his female passenger (a blonde). I glanced at the side fender of the SL-Class, noticed that "V8 Kompressor" badge, realized it's a SL55 (appeared to be bone-stock).

I then told my gf "Wanna see who's faster? A 4.4 liter supercharged BMW or a 5.4 liter Supercharged & Intercooled Mercedes Benz?", she laughed.

Light turned green, yep, we both have some sort of agreement and gunned it.. I jumped ahead about 1/5 of my car length and I can hear the sound of the SL55's blower right by me, I had wheelspin on 1st gear from 3600RPM all the way til 6750RPM and when I was approaching the end of my 2nd gear (approx. 72mph), the race is over due to the traffic ahead (next light stop), the SL55 never caught up (I was so afraid that he would blow by me during the race lol..) but right at where he was at the beginning of the race (1/5 car length), I didn't get a good look at the driver after the race as we were separated by the traffic.

So there. End of the story

Some points I want to mention here:

1. My 540i now pulls 377RWHP on dyno (on current pully) vs. 395+RWHP on SL55 (according to MBworld.com).

2. My 540i weigh 3775 lbs (last time on truck- scale) vs. 4235lbs on SL55 (According to Mercedes website).

I would assume SL55 would pulled on me at the speed over 100mph because of the HP advantage. Just that this little race is worth mentioning because the SL55 owner knows me being a old BMW 5-series and even, if it’s an E39 M5 he was encountering, he would still take it with ease.

So I win, from 0 to 75mph vs a SL55. But I seriously think I'm going to get nailed at higher speed.

Sorry I didn't make this post too short..lol.. Your thoughts on this race? Comments are welcome.

Ever consider that people don't blow everything they have on buying ONE car? Some people like to either keep cars they've owned or specifically, cars they've had fun with. You're judging his credibility based on one car he's owned, and that being one he's modified a good bit?

I'm not standing up for Jimmy, but just pointing out that your justification is flat wrong.

not sure what having an older car has anything to do with other cars you might own.... I have a 1996 Dodge Viper GTS and it's 10+ years old and you have a 10 year old supra....

Anyway, his site shows two F360's.... maybe/maybe not...

There's a huge difference, and I think you'll agree with me, between 10 year old limited production cars (mine's 1 of 24) and full production 540's that swarm the roads like flies. If you have Ferrari money, you're BALLINNNNN, hell the first major service on that car costs more than Jimmy's 540 Blue Books for. That's my issue. I drive a new M5 and I can't come close to affording an F-car, its a whole new level of financial security, that's my point.

Well, that and the fact that his girl is a blowup doll.

Anytime you need to see the AMG badge on the rear end of my car as I put car length after car length between us let me know.

This is just conjecture of course, the SL guy probably had no idea you were supercharged and he didn't think he neaded to push it much, if you had an M badge you'd have seen a different angle of that SL55. Mianly the rear.

I don't know Jim, maybe he posts this all over to troll... it could pull those traps with that power, the power to weight is close to the E55, and the E55 can do it with good weather....

I don't believe it, look at the perf. numbers for Dinan S3 M5's of that same body style, they can barely break 12's. He posted Gtech numbers, and we're supposed to believe him, yahokay.

Your kidding right? E55k throw down 420-440rwhp+ 460-480rwto no comparison what so ever..

Look at your own dyno for crying out loud! 420rwhp 460rwto that 460 rwto is what does it! guarantee that dinan has way under 350rwto

heh, are you serious? POWER to WEIGHT..... the car is 300 pounds lighter, do the math... torque isn't everything when it comes to trap speeds, look at the weak M5's torque.... they still pull decent traps...
