Talking Destroyed a new Audi S8 Wagon & an new M6 Vert

Picked up the wife at lunch today & was getting ready to merge onto an expressway & this guy in an S8 comes FLYIN' up behind me & affixes himself to my bumber. Hmmm, lets see how fast my SLK is.

I depressed the pedal not quite to the floor at ~ 20 mph to keep the T/C from coming on line. The SLK downshifted & lept forward & Franz dissipated by ~ 4 cars up to 70 mph. Lordy....this SLK is pretty nasty. He pulled up next to me at the next light & his mouth was wide open. He just shook his head & exited & waved. I think he was surprised. Beware the words "Kleemann" on the back of a Benz. That was my first real "kill" in 2 yrs of ownership.

I got another one back from lunch - a new M6 Vert (also spanked from ~ 20 mph to 70 mph). This SLK is pretty cool - way more torque than the RX-7 which is kind of fun/different driving experience. Man, no kills in 2 yrs, then 2 in 1 day! Odd.

See ya,
-Matt

that would be good except there is no Audi S8 in Avant/Wagon form. Are you sure it was an "S8"? Maybe it was S6....but even then, there is no Wagon version of that in the US? Just curious.....since S8 Wagons are nonexistant.

PS. on another note, if you wanna run a somewhat quick Audi Wagon, I'm always up for a good run if you are ever down in the SoCal area. Or maybe if I come up to Norcal Your SLK55 is Kleeman S/C i take it....489 rwhp? Impressive....i think it would be a good run (i'm in the 430 awhp and 460 awtq range).

Correct. there's no S6 wagon in the US and no S8 wagon in existence.

Your S4 (which is sweet, btw) isn't keeping up with a 5.5l putting out 489bhp.

I like NA motors as they have character but blown ones are tough to match performance wise.

By the way, I saw a 2007 "S8" yesterday- he'd kept the 4.2 badges on. Pathetic.

don't be so sure......it'll more than keep up allright. It's a Twin-Turbo V6, my wagon traps 118-120 MPH in the 1/4 mile, I'm pretty sure it'll do just fine I can take many High-HP cars (over 500+ HP range), including Whipple Cobras, AA Level 3 S/C E46 M3's (Interlagos Blue like yours that Dynoed 474 rwhp), and even an SL65 AMG (an acquantaince of mine) from a 1st gear roll (10 mph to about 105-110 mph). My Avant can take C55's with the Kleeman K55 package......so I'm sure it'll more than hold its own vs. the SLK55 version

PS. I think Yellow R1's sig states 489 rear Wheel HP, not BHP. Either way.....489 rwhp vs 430+ AWHP/460+ AWTQ should be pretty interesting

I know. I was referring to my I6 and (hopefully) soon to be V10

EvilEmpire- I have no doubt it will be close. I know of your car pretty well and it's for sure a danger to society.

Hmm, now I am puzzled becuase his right rear trunk had black badge with an "S8". WTF was it (some guy adding an S8 badge to a "lesser" wagon)? The car sat pretty low, had the wide wheel arches, etc so maybe it was an S4 Wagon with different badging. He looked to be about 35 - 40ish (not some young kid) so I am puzzled now.

Thanks for advising us on the non availability of an S8 wagon though - sounds to me someone was badging their car with something it "wasn't". Oh well - it got killed whatever it was.

I don't drive to southern CA (if I do I take a plane - kinda a pain in the azz to drive that far). If you go to the Italian Concourso in '08, let me know & I'll run your wagon (I'm going Scuba diving with the wife this year so I'll miss it this August). Here is a link - I go every other year. Its pretty fun. http://www.concorso.com/

See ya,

SL65's trap low 120 to 122...
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=119511

that is just once example of many mag tests.

running from 10 to 110 puts your AWD in the advantage.

try running around 40 to 150+ and the outcome would be very different.

much respect to your Audi, but don't make general statements that it can take on a SL65. It can hang with it at certain speeds is a very different story.

Oh i know what they trap....and I know what they can do. I know from a freeway roll-on, it will be buh-bie.......but the truth still remains, on our 10-110 run, i got him by 1 to 1 1/2 cars. His SL65 is chipped as well, and he says it wasn't so much traction but "lag" that got me out in front and held it till we shut down. He wants to do mroe highway roll-ons, like a 50-150+.....I'm sure I will run him soon. I expect to be dusted.....but I wanna see how fas back. I think i can hang close 50 to about 100 or so, but i know in 4rth he will walk. But hey, not bad for a Station Wagon and 6 less cylinders We have a C6 Z06 as well along with my buddies 580 rwhp Whipple Cobra. I think those cars will be toe to toe on the highway runs (as they all trap in the 121-126 range). Can't wait.....i'll shoot video from my Avant

Although a slaughter will not take place, I'll put my money on the SLK55R.

Pretty interesting indeed. Especially considering the SLK55R is lighter then you (yours @3800 lbs & his @3350 lbs), has more hp and torque then you and has a 7 speed transmission with effective ESP.

Giving credit were credit is due, it seems you have one fast Audi.

True.....he weighs less, and makes more power (though rwhp and awhp is hard to compare). That is why the best measure is to line them up and let them rip......that is my theory (better than Dyno numbers, etc.)

Love the Aud but my money is on the more powerful and lighter SLK55R! It's a no brainer especially if he has LSD The Aud may and I say may get him out the hole but once that SLK GETS TRACTION and the speeds climb,it's a wrap. SLK55R FTW.

I have an article on a car like yours. I will find it and post it. It was the same color and everything. @ 600 horsepower
The editor stated they went out looking for races with motorcycles because everything else was just getting embarrassed.

that must have been the MTM B5 RS4......iirc....602 bhp. Yes, that car was a beast.......mine is not pushing as much (prob in the 530+ bhp range), difference is the MTM car was an RS4 with upgraded K24 turbos and mine is an S4 with K04s.

Hey EvillE...just curious, I know you got a fast car but have you ever ran up against an EVO or Wrx...? I know those are traditionally fast, but it would be great to see a 'station wagon' rip those guys... please shoot a video when you do....EVO/Wrx drivers around my hood think they own the roads...LOL!!

I like the stealth of your car!!!

lol....thanks for the compliments I've run a few Evos and STIs here and there, but usually they are not a good run. Unless they are heavily modded (like 400 whp and higher with upgraded turbos like GT35r or bigger), they pretty much are only good off a Dig/Launch but pretty much fall flat on their faces at about 80/90 mph or so. Off a highway roll.....they just flat out suck. The EVOs i've ran are usually ones with with typical ECU Flash, intake, exhaust and mid/dps. They are a pretty easy walk in the park. I have ran a "supposed" 450-500whp STI awhile back in OC....got him by a couple cars. It's very rare to see EVOs/STIs of the such trap anything higher than the lo 110's. Most of them are in the 105-110 range.....nothing serious. Guess they feel pretty confident since they have AWD and can get off the line pretty good (as long as the drivers can drive).....but then again, so do I (AWD that is) Yea...the sleeper Wagon look gets most people everytime

PS. new EVO IX's are pretty quick though with just a simple flash, mbc, hi-flo cats, and exhaust...they can run lo-mid 12's and trap about 112-114

i would have to say that guy with the 450-500 hp sti is full of crap or it is at the flywheel, i know a guy that went through 2 wrx's one being an sti that he had massive power to the wheels and kept blowing things up, they don't handle power too well

as for evo's i know that the 8 out of the box was quick, almost killed my self when i worked for a dealership driving one....... but yeah i love my audi a4 with just a simple flash, wouldn't trade it for anything...... nice thing about audi's are that they are easy to upgrade and the interiors are timeless

thanks for the invite...

last year was a record year for me... 3 speeding tickets all with the C32 (no radar detector)

I'm done racing... only when pushed upon would I exceed the limit.

I went to traffic school for 1 and 2 are on my record for good. My insurance is up about %40.

I don't really need to run my E55 hard in the streets, except to buy milk for my 2 boys and its the middle of the night.

After a while.. the whole thing about "my car is faster than yours" gets really boring. Specially during those freeway runs or empty highway runs in the middle of the night, where one is asking for trouble.

If we set up the Fontana event again, I'll go. I was there last year as an observer and it was really cool.

congrats on your audi and its capabilities.
