Had a short run with my friend's new lightweight Gallardo last night and I was surprised at the results. He claimed to be quicker than an LP640 on pick up and from the way I saw him take off before, his car looked bloody quick. So when we took of from a first gear roll, I was so shocked at getting a half car jump on him I actually hit the rev lmiter! He got level at this point but when my 2nd gear engaged, thanks to my enourmous torque I pulled half a car again! We shut down midway through 3rd gear (around 160kmh) and I was roulghly 1 car ahead.

I know that from a dig I probably wouldn't have stood a chance (AWD) and he also said he didn't turn on Sport mode. But taking into account the fact I over-revved and still pulled on him, I doubt the reult would have been reversed even with his sport mode switched on.

Btw, I have raced all types of Gallardos before and here's the rundown on them:

04 Gallardo: This G had no chance at all, I let him go first and still killed it like a 911 turbo kills a Boxster

06 Gallardo with Larini exhaust: This G is much quicker than the older one. If he goes first I'll have trouble catching him. But anywhere within 1st 3 gears on the roll I will get an immediate 2-3 car lengths on him. However, if we start in 4th gear or above, I can only pull maybe 1 car then maintain the lead but not able to pull anymore.

its hard to believe when a car weighing so much less (I dont know what kind of hp you put down with your mods) and stock hp being higher that he wouldnt pull on you.

Sceptical.

I will ask him for a re-run over a longer distance and see the outcome. Yesterday was more of an impromptu thing so it may not be a true reflection. As for the 06 Gallardo, I can definitely pull on him as we tried many times.

Nice runs. The Gallardo SL pulls alot harder then a normal Gallardo especially up top, looks like your TQ was working well on staying ahead down low, id be curious to see how you would do above the 100mph mark, again nice runs

Yes, in my CLS55 with the mods listed in my sig. Torque is king on the streets!

now this is just plain rediculous. Either your buddy has no idea how to drive his car and use all the rpms or he was taking it easy on you.

Fact: (based on stock) your car makes 469 hp and weighs over 4050 pounds. Torque may be king, but your car is a pig no matter how you slice it. You need that torque to get that big car going. Your car is rated at 0-60 at 4.5 seconds. Your car is 8.6lbs per hp.

Fact: Lamorghini Gallardo SL makes 523hp and weighs 2999 pounds. There is over a 1000 pounds that it does not have to account for. Its rated from 0-60 at 3.8seconds. Thats a huge, especially when you get going even faster. SL is 5.7 lbs per hp.

No way you pulled on the SL. Even with the mods you listed and you jacked your hp to 500 or 520, or 550, you still carry way to much weight per hp. Now, if you said you were heavily modded with over 600 hp, it might be believable.

TopCarbon, his mods should give him enough hp that he might be at the 600hp level. Don't underestimate the 55 Kompressors, especially when modded.

I watched my friend walk a '05 Gallardo from a roll all the way up to 150ish. He had at the time an E55 with just a Pulley (no ECU). I'm sure the race with the newer Gallardos would be much closer, but Jspeed's car could definitely pull on a Gallardo.

From my SOTP feeling, it seems like a modded E55 would be just as quick if not slightly quicker than a Gallardo. I've driven both plenty of times and those are my observations.

A mildly modified CLS55 is no match for the Gallardo SL, let alone a kill.

Am I because the SL has more hp?
Am I because the SL weighs a **** load less?

mildly modded?

Just look at that sig ... that 55K is NOT lightly modded. From a power prospective he really doesn't have much left to do. All I can see left are major items like Headwork, Nos, or SLR intercoolers.

Oops one more thing that is small he can do ... is the low end cooling mods.

The last time I dynoed about 1 year ago, the car made around 580bhp and 870 nm of torque. Should be more but weather here is hot and humid. My peak torque is at 3800rpm whilst the Gallardo makes peak power at what, 8000rpms? So by the time he gets really going, its quite likely that I'm already 1 car length ahead or so with the momentum advantage because of the torque band. Remember that this is a street race not a drag race.
