I'll be the first to give a comment I guess.

I read the thread and there was one idiot who said "I only race light to light, I won't speed, I stop once I get up to the limit, and not if there's traffic".

Sorry that just as stupid an opinion, there are pedestrains, there are buildings, there is even the car you are racing, if you're accelerating hard and a tire blows, you're done, into the wall or car beside you, then maybe across the median and into oncoming traffic, or a kid walking, or maybe through the front door of a house.

I'll admit, I have street raced before, and probably still will even after reading that.

Please don't feel that bad for the little boy and girl, please hate the mother just as much. What if it was snowing, and the little girl or boy were out of control because they weren't belted, and the mother wasn't paying attention, saw something up ahead, turned sharply, rolled the van, the kids still weren't belted, and it was just an accident waiting to happen.

As for the guy who feels that everyone should be belted, well once my passengers are of the age where they can make that decision for themelves (16 here), then I don't feel bad, because its their life, they know they are in a car and anything can happen, their choice, their consequences. All drivers should be belted though, cause when things do go wrong, it keeps you in your seat to beable to deal with them. If you're driving not buckled up, you should lose your licence, not just be fined.

Lastly, speed does kill, but speed is the factor of how bad the accident is, not always the factor leading to the accident. I've seen lots of accidents at very low speeds, just the high speed ones get more attention because of their gruesome outcome, therefore leading to people wanting to limit speed rather than focus on the real problem, bad drivers.

Driving is a luxury, not a right. If you're caught doing stupid stuff, then you should have your licence taken away, not just fined, then maybe people would respect the road more.

Sorry about the length, I just know how everyone will read this and feel sad without truely thinking about the real problems.

My $0.02.

i disagree here. yes people can make their own decisions, but who would be riding in my car with me? friends? family? people i care about right? yes......so why should i let it be their decision. i would rather prevent a serious issue by being an ***. It is my car, when you ride in MY car, you wear your seatbelt, in the front, in the back, wherever. I dont really give a damn whether you like it or not, if you dont want to wear a seatbelt, then you can ride in another car.....

Then you don't really disagree, cause its my car, my rules too, and I don't care if you wear a seatbelt, its your life, not mine.

Glad I'm not your friend and would never have occasion to ride in your car, seeing as how you don't seem to give a damn whether family or friends die in your car by not wearing seatbelts. Nice.

There's a alot of stupid people in the world, I truely don't care about them all.

Look at our highways, full of stupid people, I'll even comment on this story. the mother, if truely paying attention probably could've seen the fast moving Accord and moved the the side of the road (yes she doesn't have to, but if something looks like its going to run into me, I'd move over too, common sense). Most accidents are preventable if people would pay more attention to the road rather than their cigarette, cell phone, food, or kids.

My friends love driving with me, or even with me in the car cause I tend to pay attention to the road and have saved a few drivers from wrecks cause they weren't.
