I still don't understand why the put the SC V8 in there. The V12 TT is the much better powerplant. It's heavier, but I'm sure they could have come up with something.

That's a really fast Z!!
Wasn't there another video with a similar race in UAE with SLR edging a similarily modded Z06??![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)

Sweet vid. Unfortunately, I never see any SLR's on the streets so I doubt I'll ever get to test one out. A few weekends back I was in Times Square and a crew rolled through with 3 Gallardos, an F430, and an SLR. Everybody was going nuts, including myself. My girl was like "look, Diddy's car!" The SLR is quite a head turner...I got defensive and told her "yeah, well my car will smoke him" and she laughed at me...I felt like a douche

why didn't they do it properly and time the runs ?
last year I was involved in a very similar event to this
it was also run on an airstrip over a long distance so we could reach high speeds and was even run with cars side by side.
the difference is we were all timed repeatedly over a set distance (3/4 of a mile ) and the times and terminal speeds were used to see which were the fastest cars.
you cannot judge who is faster just by one side by side race as there are too many variables
for instance on two of my runs I beat the cars I was put against to the finish line yet when I checked the list of times achieved by everyone on the day both cars overall posted quicker times than mine and had just had a bad run against me
I'm not trying to bash or anything but if people take the trouble to arrange these events and then run the cars to see which is quicker surely it makes sense to get some gear set up to give more accurate results.
imo this race tells me nothing other than the vette was ahead on that run

The SLR in the above video not only slept at the start, but was ran as an automatic. In otherwords, at the time of start, the transmission needed time to kick down also.
Appart from that, out of the many run ins Ive had with my SLR against different Z06's the Corvette Clubs Las Vegas 1 mile and 1/2 mile shootout is the best gauge. In the 1/2 mile, the stock SLR against 2 different stock Z06's was almost 10mph faster. In the 1/2 mile both the Z06's returned identical 146mph traps, while the SLR hit 155. In the mile the stock Z06's both were coming in at 160mph, while a 550rwhp Z06 (head/cam, intake, exhaust, tune) hit 173.... to the stock SLR's 179mph. Z06 is fast, but not fast enough.

SLR is one mean machine i can tell you that from personal experience of driving my collegues.
But after also driving the Z06 for the past 2 days, sadly i have to say the Z06 def pulls harder in the beginning and up towards 130-150 in my opinion of both cars.
The SLR might beat the stock Z's after 160 because of the gearing.. but where are you going to drive that fast anyway?.
its nice knowing that if you were ever to race a $500,000 SLR in a $80,000 z06 youd prob be dead even until 150-160 until the z's gearing came into play.
Now add some minor performance mods from Lingenfelter or twin turbos and your smoking pretty much every car on the planet for $120grand lol.

the only time a SLR is obliterating a STOCK z06 is after 160. the Z def has harder acceleration.
And theres no doubt from a dig to 140-150 the Z06 is about even with the SLR.. but the SLR having it by half car length to a full car lenght at most.
after 160 the slr sweeps the floor with the Z

It doesn't matter if in real life you beat a Z06 by 10 cars in your SLR, or if you beat an SLR by 10 cars in your Z06, because neither of those cases will happen given PROPER drivers of both cars. Driver for driver, stock for stock, it is a drivers race and the data all around us shows it. Past 160, the SLR will pull.

Again, same time, same place, sanctioned event, real timing gear... 2 differnt Z06's.... Z06 far behind... 146-155
Modified Z06..173-179
In AZ, on a 100 degree day, my SLR ran 11.5@129mph, compared to the fastest stock clocked Z06 which belonged to Saad Saad. if you are not familair with Saad, he has a World record 8 second Supra, a 9 second street tired twin turbo Viper. Best time in his Z06, bone stock, 11.7@124, now modified with heads/cam/intake/exhaust tune.... 10.95@130 on drag radials on a cool 60 degree day.
Certainly you can compare Z06 time in perfect D/A and temps to that of the few SLR times available. but on same time, same day, against one another, the Z06 is quite abit slower. As an added mention, My slr, vs bone stock Porsche CGT, any speed-40-50-60 to over 160mph, dead even.
Also, on drag radials, on a cooler day. still using traction control, I ran 11.00@129. prob is, that I couldnt do a proper burnout with the drag radials, and the track prep was horrible, the car would start spinning the tires 1/2 track.

I've been throwing challenges around on these kill forums like crazy. Unfortunately, most live outside of driving distance. Again, a C6 Z06 is down for action in the NY tri-state area!

Building a 900rwhp lightweight Gallardo now. Didnt intend to sell the SLR, but got an offer on it I couldnt refuse. No doubt it was one of, if not THE most incredible cars Ive owned so far.
