2008 G35x vs 2006 Audi S4
2008 G35x(stock) vs 2006 Audi S4(stock)
My friend just bought a 2006 Audi S4 with 10k miles on it and we were in my G35x and he said wow this thing is slow lol. I told him I will be on your S4's bumper and he said lets try it out. This is the V8 4.2L 340hp/302TQ S4 and I assumed right away I will lose but not by much. We raced from 0-90mph and I was in front by 2 car lengths. We both were in shock because we started at the same time and I actualy started pulling. We initally wanted to run my G37 vs the S4 but my brother took it for the weekend. I was just wondering if I'm the only one who believes that the S4 should be faster?

from a dig they should both get traction granted the driver knows what he is doing, but the S4 should pull harder all the way and it should be faster than the G35x. did the S4 driver know how to launch the car? if not, you probably had those car lengths built up from his inability to launch it. it isn't easy to launch manual AWD cars if you dont know what you're doing. either way, he should have stopped your pull and should have pulled closed the distance. the 06 S4 if i remember was supposed to be a little quicker than a C32, which is definitely quicker than a G35, 35x, 37, 37x, 37S, whatever. interesting result though. hmm.

S4
The S4 "should" be quicker. But if he bogged it even a little bit against the G35x then he would have been playing catch up the rest of the way. They are close enough that catching one after giving up a length or two is tough.
I've run G35's (2wd model) in my C32 and found them to be fairly easy to beat but they are not really slow cars. I aways expected the S4 to be a close race but have never gotten the opportunity to play with one.

The V8 S4's underpowered and overweight. Still, if driven properly it will take a G35 -- but not by much. It's easy to bog the launch or burn up the clutch if not done properly. Did you guys do any runs from a roll?
Also, if he had his ESP enabled it might have intervened between the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts -- it does in my RS4. It creates some lag after the shift before it allows for WOT again... easily good for 1/2 car length each shift.
Though, if you want a fast Audi, you don't buy a V8 S4 unless you plan on supercharging it.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Your G37 *should* be faster, even if driven properly, due to less drive train loss and less weight... unless he learns how to get it out of the hole well enough.

The G35x drives in RWD config unless you manually put it in 4WD mode, meaning the car has less parrrasitic drivetrain loss than a permanent 4WD car. The G35x is pretty sprite for what it is. Good kill ;o)

NICE I did'nt even know that the G35X had that feature but i knew it was AWD. Sounds like it kinda has a setup like a 997 Turbo.

Is his S4 an automatic? If so they're terrible out of the hole. That car needs to be launched at 4k RPM and the trans won't allow for that.

I have a friend who barely beat a stock G37 (S?) in a bolt-on G35. And I would give him a spanking in my C32 everytime we raced when I was stock. So judging from my own experience the G37 is definatly not faster than a well maintained C32 or a B6S4.

ML320, Looking for my S4
lol, if my car was running right now. I'd give you both a 3 car head start and beat you before you hit 100. The power of the 4K clutch drop with 500+awhp is incredible. I've data logged a few 3.3 second 0-60 times. Man up, all real men should drive a stick.

B6S4 is only faster than a stock C32 off the line, mid range the C32 would pull.
