Shelby GT500

My buddy has a rag top Shelby GT500 I'd like to run in my stock E55. What do you think the results of this will be?

We were going to meet up a few months ago when he was in town but it rained so we never did. He's back and I know we'll end up side by side soon.

He runs 100 octane all the time and has no mods. It's a stick as well and still on factory tires which must suck since he spins them all over town and they still look new. Plus, its a little heavy being a rag top.

From a dig, I think I win due to better tires and the difficulty of launching and shifting his car without any mistakes. From a 40 roll I'm not so sure. I've been in his Shelby and it feels very fast but he says the same for my E.

Opinions?

If you go "magazine racing" Car and Driver calls the E55 a mid-12 second 1/4 mile car and the Shelby GT500 Convertible a mid-13 second 1/4 mile car:Here in the real world, the cars have similar power to weight ratios (~4,000 lbs, ~500 HP) but the E55 produces more torque at lower RPMs (516 ft lbs @ 2,650 RPMs versus 480 ft lbs @ 4,500 RPMs) and almost certainly has more torque at most RPMs. Because of that torque advantage I'd expect the E55 to be faster in just about any acceleration test.

Just be sure your intercooler pump is working correctly!

I've seen several GT500s at the dragstrip getting beat by sock C6 vettes (non Z06), ET and trap. Shouldn't be a problem.

I don't care what speed you go from, it won't even be close.....The E wins every time.

The Shelby doesn't stand a chance. At the 1/8 mile drags a couple weeks ago I was able to beat one twice -- in my RS4. Now, we know that the E55 will decimate the RS4, so by the transitive property... you will kill him from a dig if you can do better than the 2.4 60's this guy was pulling! I was only doing 1.9s and was still able to put a couple cars on him really quick.

He was gaining by the end of the 1/8 and had a couple MPH higher trap, but the E55 will continue to pull away hard.

FWIW, it was a coupe I ran, too, so the convertible will be even worse.

Here's the video (GT500 @ around 2:10) YouTube
He got the light both times and still lost. I was running 8.5-8.6@82-83mph all night. He did 8.8s @ 85mph I think

You will eat him alive! Get it on video too.

Nice runs twentyvalveb5! I think my M3 was getting those same 1/8 mile times and it ran a 13.5@105mph at fontana.

Watching your videos makes me want to go to irwindale this thursday!! My best is 7.74 @ 92mph. Too bad I sold my stock wheels.

A stock GT500 will take a roundhouse to the head if this modded one can't win.
