SL55 vs.Corvette zo6

I am coming home from downtown Indy yesterday afternoon with the wife. The weather is unseasonably warm (68) so the top is down. We are stopped at a light and I’m not really paying attention to the type of cars around which is unusual for me especially because we are on a road well known for street racing. The next thing I know, I hear a guy in the car next to me say “you wanna run em.” I perk up and then remember my wife sitting next to me. Before I could respond, the wife says “take him” so I nod and say yes. The car next to me was a late model vette, but I didn’t know any details because I had not seen him pull up next to me and I am now watching the light.

The light turns green and we both jump on it. I managed to keep the tires gripped up good. The little SL gets him early and just keeps on pulling to maybe 3 or 4 car lengths. I see the vette shut it down behind me so I do the same. He then pulls up next to me, maybe one more run from a roll. He starts adjusting his speed. My guess, he is setting me up in his sweet spot, but who cares, let’s run. He nails it at around 30 so I punch it too. Although he had the jump, he only gets me by half a car length or so before the SL reels him in and over takes him. Then the guy pulls up next to me and asks “does that thing have a blower in it.” He must have heard the screaming SC as I blew past him. I smile and say “yep stock.” I don’t think he had any idea what he was playing with, but neither did I. I saw the Z06 badge as he pulled away.

Thanks man. Here are a few shots. She is bone stock from the outside except for tint. You can see the additional HE in the first shot.

The Z06 driver doesn't know his power destribution. 30mph is better off for you, it's the top of your first and the middle of his 1st. How fast were you guys going when he overtook you?

Good kill!

He never did overtake me. We both shut down at maybe 90 or so. The area is block to block or light to light. Do you think he would have overtaken at some point? I have been told that my car kinda likes the high end based on my track slips. Here is one below. What do you think? I'm on the right

You have a nicely tuned SL, no doubt. However, it can't have been a C6 Z06 unless he was short-shifting as they trap mid-high 120s stock. Must have been a C5. Nevertheless, nice report and run.

I never buy the stories where a spouse would encourage street racing. I've never met a woman like that. Ever.

I ran an 11.8 and trapped a 123 stock, besides street radials. And I would put myself in the mediocre driver range. Putting a Z06 into upper 120's is not an easy task. I have yet to see or even hear of someone I know do it.

Your numbers are good and I don't doubt you took him out, not everyone drives the same.

I don't know much about vettes. By late model, I meant maybe 03 04 time frame. He may not have been a zo6, but sure had the badge. We have all seen AMG on stuff too though.

It seems that people who frequently use words like “never” and “ever” find they are incorrect on occasion. Just because you have never, ever, met a women like that does not mean she does not exist.

He was just joking.

I'd be pretty sure it was a Z06, just the 03/04 C5 as you said in your last post. A tuned SL55 is no joke so this story sounds right on.

Weird, not married but the majority of GF's know my car obsession and from time to time tell me to kill em ( if the other driver is a cocky jerk then yes its on).....regardless good read.

Great that car looks stock and such a sleeper!

I'm with you now and working on my sense of humor or lack thereof.

It is a good thing I deleted the part of my response about doubting that you have met many women.

Fact is, if my wife would have been driving instead of riding, the vette would have taken us. Her foot is way too heavy for a proper launch on a car with some torque. She would have made lots of smoke though.

I've seen that slip before, but what I meant is I do not personally know any Z06 owners who could drive their car like that.
Look at the top ten average for RF's: 11.294 @ 124.987. (top ten stock and RF avg. Source: Corvetteforum.com). The only other member who put his car up in the higher 120's on RF's is the respected Ranger.

My wife was with me a few years ago when we were stuck for a few miles behind an inconsiderate *** on a Harley driving slow in the left lane. When I finally was able to get into the right lane to go around him, of course the douche floors it to keep me from getting by. I floored it and was just about to overtake him when I hear my wife shouting, "No, No, No" (the windows were down so it was hard to hear her over the bike). As soon as I let off, she asked, "What are you doing, you had him?" With a puzzled look, I explained that I let off because she was repeatedly screaming NO at me. She just started laughing and told me that she was shouting GO, GO, GO not NO, NO, NO.

Your E55 would've killed that Harley, easily...you are too considerate of a husband

That is what I was thinking. I'm sure everyone has roasted a Harley or two.
