C32 Evosport Stage I v. SVT Cobra

You know those days where your car seems to have an extra 10 or 15 ponies, for whatever reason, under the hood? Yesterday was one of those. Guy in 2000-something SVT Cobra pulls up next to my Evosported C32 at a stoplight. Nice loooong stretch of clear asphalt in front of us. We start off slow, until he nails it at about 20MPH. By the time I react, he is already a car ahead. My C32 drops into 2nd (which is really not the meat of the powerband at this speed). By 40 MPH we are even. By the end of 2nd, I have him by almost a car. He shuts down, and looks mortified.

Mods on my car: Evosport Stage I (ECU reprgrammed, larger pulley) plus SL55 "Y" pipe, K&Ns, Optima battery (saves 31lbs.).

Bring em on, BAAABY!

I wanted to race a cobra the other night, the guy told me he'd love to go but he just blew his motor and it'd be a waiste of time. lol go figure.

Have you ever raced a modded srt4....I HATE THOSE DAMN cars...if someone puts 800 dollars into an srt4 it will take a c32 pretty bad.

The c32 is not meant for a race car, bla bla its not the same car ....but damn, who likes to lose??

I'll bet that wasn't a supercharged Mustang Cobra, you would have never caught it. Also, there is a video of a 500-horsepower SRT-4 on the dyno. 500 horsepower at the wheels is extremely impressive for a car that has 230 flywheel horsepower stock. It's still a Neon, although I would like to have one to blow the doors off pesky kids in their Civics.

Supercharged SVT Cobra

I think that it was the supercharged one. I don't think that the normally aspirated one could even come close to a modded C32. Doesn't the supercharged Cobra run about a 12.9 quarter? If I knew how to launch my car from a stop without smoking the tires, I think that I my modified C32 would be in this range. Since this race was from a roll, I didn't have the "crappy launch" handicap. This guy may have also picked the wrong gear, or not been a good shifter.

Cobra's did not come with a stock super charger until 2003. My '99 with a few basic mods put down 298 hp to the rear wheels when I had it dyno'd. G-Tech timing showed 13.8 in the 1/4. 0-60 in 5.5.

C32 vs. 2004 SVT Cobra at dragstrip

Raced a stock 2004 SVT Cobra (he had slicks, I had stock-size Toyos) yesterday at Carlsbad Raceway. He jumped me 1 1/2 cars on launch, which I slowly made up. Another 100 yards to the race, and I would have passed him. Anyways, by the end of the quarter, he beat me by 1/2 car. His trap speed was 109.5, mine was 111.

My car: 2002 C32 with Evosport Stage I (pulley, ECU, intercooler reservoir, SL55 "Y" splitter) plus K&Ns, Denso Iridiums, Magnecor Wires, Optima Battery, Flik "Lex" wheels, Toyo T-1s.

I think you guys ran into two of the only stock '03/'04 cobras running around. Probably 85-90% of the '03s and an increasing number of the '04s are pushing 450-500 rwhp as it only costs about $1500 for a CAI, exhaust & supercharger pulley swap. I actually just sold mine & I was @ 455hp/525tq. Stock '03s typically trap @ 110 mph & with the basic mods 120-122mph. The newer E55 with drag radials and modded '03 Cobras tend to have some pretty good runs. Of course, this being my first post on this site, I am providing this for informational purposes only, I'm definitely not talking smack. I'd love to have a C32 in my driveway. That is actually the reason I came onto this site, I was hoping to get some additional information and opinions about various MBs as I am considering making an early 2005 purchase. I hope I didn't offend anyone. See you guys around.

Just kidding! Most of the people on this forum have pretty thick skins, so don't worry! Check the C32 forum. . . someone has a 2002 C32 with something like 8,000 miles on it for 40 or 42K. Would be a sweet deal for 40K.

Thumbs up

Nice story.

I raced a few Cobras, both NA or S/C in my old skyline and they are fun cars to race with.

I've never seen that "Banned" Smile before on any other forum. Pretty sweet. Thanks for the heads up on the 02, I'll check it out.

Hey Jon what kind of skyline did you have and what mods? Where you from? My brother has an R33 and I mus say it's one of the easiest cars to mod and you get the most gains out of them also. Definitely a fun car to drive out on the streets. Lil ricers come up to me revvin at me like they really wanna run and girls always come up askin for rides...
