X5 4.4i or Lexus RX400h. The Lexus is a hybrid as you may already know.

i've ridden in both, but personally i would recommend the FX45 rather than FX35 for the price and what you get, but if you have choosen down to two vehicles. In my opinion i would choose the Toureg than the FX35, more room and more storage ratio to people occupancy. Plus if your traversing over a small stream you can actually cross up to a depth of 28" of water without worrying water getting in the cabin, and the cabin looks better than the Infinity.

thanks guy's, i like the x5 but it's a little out of my price range for a lease. the reason i choose the fx35 was it seems like i get alot for the money and the tourage has a beautiful interior and exterior.
i have read that the Vw's had lots of problems, does anybody know if the 2006's are problem free?

my cousins 01' GTI had more little annoying problems than any car i have ever seen. honestly i love the FX35/45. Personally i think infiniti has some of the nicest SUV's on the market. That QX56 is beautiful.

Dont buy the lexus its a soccer moms car, and BMW aint that pretty looking. Honestly id get the ML350 over those. Even the base Cayanne is nicer.

In the price ranger you have (which seems to be well under $40k)
FX35, Acura MDX, Jeep Grand Cheeroke limited, VW Tourag, Nissan Armada SE.

With the exception of the Jeep (which i drove and liked alot) i wouldnt bother going american. Out of that list I would rank 1st(best) as the FX35, then Armada, then Jeep, then VW Tourag, then MDX.

Now going above the $40k price range would obviously change everything.

I drove both the FX35 and FX45 (thanks to a friend in the car biz) for a few weeks before going down and buying a 2004 Touareg V8. The Infinity looks increadible especially the FX45 with the 20" wheels but what a POS! The 35 is more anemic than the V6 VW and everything inside looks and feels cheap. The 45 is a better performing vehicle but again, cheap looking and feeling.

Why did I get the Touareg V8? It has excellent off road capabilities and a real low range transfer case. Very good ride quality with the optional suspension. Great set of options like Navigation, park assist, Premium radio, keyless entry, etc. with an unbelievable discount on 2004 models after the 2005 models hit the showroom. Mine stickered for just south of $50K but I paid $42K OTD.

thanks again guy's, i went and drove both yesterday and to be honest both drove great! but i had a few concerns with both, first the fx, great drive but the view out the rear kinda sucked. as far as the interior goes looks great but much smaller than my ML430 was and i have no idea how the car is to get serviced. the VW felt great and very cumfy interior, great views out of all the windows, the power of the v6 was pretty much = to that of the fx35 but i had one problem, after about 4 miles in the car(2006, i was the first to drive it) the tranny started clunking, like it wanted to down shift at the wrong time and the sales guy said he felt nothing but hey i know what i felt and heard! i read some horror stories about the 2004's and they sounded pretty bad. i have also heard customer service sucks at VW, they try and deny problems that really exsist. i just loved the service i got with my ML, i would love to buy another ML but gosh darn they went up in price

Was the shifter in S or Sport? The trans downshifts at very high RPMs when in S mode and the low gearing and high torque make for a very jerky ride.

Other than a noisy front strut and a few loose interior pieces (all fixed free), the car has been flawless for over 15,000 miles. Local dealer (Lewis) had some employee turnover that casued some confusion but they paid for my 5K and 10K services to make up for it.

sounds like a great dealer, i have heard bad things about the dealer here in santa barbara ca. i don't know which mode the car was in but i will drive it again and check, one question about the downshifts, does it make a noise when it downshifts, like a clunk?

The dealer is trying real hard to please me right now. I hope they keep it up!

It should not clunk when it downshifts. Try driving another car and put it in sport mode. There is a noticable tug or jerk when it downshifts but the only noise I hear is the engine reving when it "blips" the throttle just before the shift.

You might want to go back to your BMW dealer again. BMW is offering great leases on X5's, as well as $5,000.00 "trunk money".

Audi S4 Avant and BMW X5 4.4
My dad has an FX35 and my uncle has the Touareg. Personally...I like the FX better. Just because it is more fun to drive. With the Sport Suspension...you can drive it "semi-Spirited"...though nothing compared to my car, but that's another story :p The FX35 also has pretty decent power...adequate for acceleration, merging, and passing...and the Exhaust tone is sweet (nice deep growl) unles you don't like an aggresive tone. The Touareg has a great interior (nicer than the FX) and has ALOT of gadgety features. You may or may NOT like this. It is also roomier and acan serve better for long distance trips (the FX has basically NO trunkspace!). My S4 Avant can hold more than the Inifiniti. The only thing I don't like about the Touareg is that...well...it IS a VW and fully or well-equipped...you are looking at over $40k. For A VW!!! For that price...I'd rather step up and get a Cayenne. But that's just me. Either way...good luck with whichever you decide.

thanks for the review EvilllEmpirE and i toatally agree with you on the perofrmance of the fx35, i love the way it drives and passes and sounds. so we went and drove it again this weekend, loved it again but we also brought our 18 month old son with his walker and baby bag and car seat and it "DID NOT FIT, AT LEAST NOT COMFORTABLY. so it's a no go on the fx35. so now we are down to the tourage and a pilot(or as i like to call it, the pile of it) it's an ok car but there is nothing really sensational about, it's just there and the payments are low 1500$ down and 314 a month for bottom of the line but i just don't like it, hell i don't even think i will wash it if we get it, i may even pee on the tires.
we also drove the 3.0 x5 with the sport package as some of the people on here suggested, and wow we loved it! what a car with that 5k incentive i thought we could do it but with the residual on the 2005 the lease was still to much, what a beammer( i mean bummer). it was like 3500 down with 499 plus tax monthly, i can do 450 but not 550. if i have to get the "pile of it" i will reside my self to to the corner with a pointy hat
