CATALYC CONVERTER

Guys
My Catalytic went bad and begin to get worst again after 4 years ago been replace. it cost me a lot and I believed everyone with ML have this issue due of bad material of catalytic it self.
I found that MB should replace our ML Catalytic at no charge
http://www.epa.gov/compliance/resour...sfcsht0612.pdf

Bad thing is, I called one of MB dealer in Bedford TX and they said that gov issue to replace our catalytic is not valid.
Can anyone help me with this issue, it s really not funny at all to have to replace this peace and keep ruin our sensor...

This been huge problems and MB has been denied..
One of the dealer just said you vin in not on MB list of recall so you re on your own...I even call MB it self and customer service said same thing.
Clearly specific for ML model they dont list it the mileage due poor quality of catalytic it self.
I agree each dealer are different and so far two of service manager said NO

It seems he already got them replaced once under the recall...

Its a 2000 ML430, very likely has more than 80,000 miles on it.
The Federal emissions warranty is only good for 8 years/80,000 miles..

I don't think, they would replaced a recalled item twice, unless of course the replacement brought in another 8 year/80K mile warranty...

Well the 8 years/ 80K miles is for S and CL
In EPA didnt specific for ML, I just dont expact this peace will be broken again after I replace it 4 years ago and only use 40K miles
Here s the bottom line from MBUSA, MB only cover certain vin number for ML to be recall for this catalytic meanwhile EPA clearly advised all ML must be inspect or replace if necessary.
Even I used original MB part due I understand the labor cost is very high.

If you have called MBUSA and they gave you the same answer you may be out of luck. They sometimes can override the dealer depending on what their particular system displays. I would suggest possibly calling back MBUSA a couple times to see if you get the same response from each customer service rep. If you do, then you may need to get new ones. I would also suggest as others have said maybe trying another dealer too...it may be a whole lot of hassle but might be worth it...

If you need new ones let me know. I am parting my 2000ML55 and still have the passenger side ones and one driver side one.

8 years/ 80K miles is the gov't mandated warranty for all OE catalytic converters on all cars sold in USA.

If a car maker discovers a large percentage failing before that, a recall is certainly appropriate--car maker will probably recover some costs from his supplier. This is known as a defect.

If yours was replaced under recall or under warranty, the time limit for the new one remains 8 years 80K miles on the CAR.

You will find that aftermarket CATs are barely worth the metal they're made with, while an OE replacement will very likely last 80k miles / 8 years. Shows up in the cost, obviously.
