subwoofer

I have a 99 ML with Bose and want to add a larger subwoofer. I guess the only place is in rear. Any suggestions or cautions?

I have an inline drop from my Bose to convert the signals to my amps. I have a single 12 in the rear and it sounds good, but not as good as if you had RCAs running straight off the deck.
My only caution to you is have a certified stereo installers that have worked with Bose, amd Mercedes ML before. It will save alot of time, and broken panels.
If you have the money you could go the same route as Iceburge, and have a custom install on everything.

Alpine's

I want to get a 12'' subwoofer from Alpine for my car...my only question is: What else do I need with it? And who will do the wiring (I don't trust the local Best Buy)

kmtadc-

This is a very easy answer for you.

First ~ You will need a box for the 12". Either it be custom or manufactured box, but if I had the extra money I would go with a custom box built by a dealer that specialize for that subwoofer brand. Custom box will hit harder, and sound better then the ones you get at any electronic store.

Second ~ You will need an amp to run the 12"

Third ~ Line drop(inverter). This is only needed if you are running your stock deck that don't have RCA outputs.

Fourth ~ Amp kit. Run at least a 4awg gauge wiring to your amp or amps. I think 4awg will be good enough to run around 600 to 1000watt amp. 4awg will besuffiecint enough incase you want to run more amps, or a more powerful amp.

Fifth ~ A local stereo shop, and installer that have delt with newer Mercedes wirings.

I hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks a lot...I think I'll go with the custom box.

hey, I have a 2000 ML320 with the bose system.... Im 17 and have 2 10"s Rockford HE2's in the back of my car with a 1000watt kenwood amp, got 2 single 10" QLOGIC boxes from best buy...I installed the system myself with no knowledge of car steros, a little bit of home stereos though... What i did was disconnect the stock sub under the drivers seat, and wire it to the line in converter , then ran those rcas to the amp, i got a wiring diagram for the deck and ran the remote wire from the amp and tapped into the 12v antenna. Then ran the 12v from the amp to the battery terminal, and grounded it in the back. That is all that was needed to be done, I had to get the deck taken out by the dealer in order to gain access to the 12v antenna wiring, but that took 5 min from the dealer. I found it more simple then it sounded, and like i said im 17 with little to no stereo knowledge, I think it was more fun and i learned alot installing it myself, but if you dont trust yourself or you just want a prof to do it then go to a professional.

SYSTEM WIRING

THERE IS NO WAY TO GET PASS THE BOSE SYSTEM. IF YOU WANNA RUN THE ORIGINAL WIRES FROM THE DECK TO THE SPEAKERS. U WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE TO REWIRE THE THE WIRES FROM THE HEADUNIT TO THE SPEAKERS IF YOU ARE NOT RUNNING A AMP. IF YOU ARE RUNNING A AMP TO THE SPEAKERS THEN RUN THE RCAs TO WHEREVER THE AMPS ARE AT THEN WIRE THE AMP WIRES STRAIGHT TO YOUR SPEAKERS. IS IT HARD? NO. IT TAKES TIME. ONLY WIRES YOU CAN USE FROM THE DECK ARE THE POWER MEMORY AND GROUND. BOSE SYSTEMS RUN ON 1 OHM INTO EACH SPEAKER. IF YOU WIRE A 4 OHM SPEAKERS TO IT, IT WILL BLOW THE BOSE AMP UP.

wiring

I have the same goal to. I plan to put a sub in the back. I'm gonna mount the amp and crossovers somehwere on or in the box for easy removal and just anchor them with ties

Question.

Where do i get power +12V for the amp?
How about ground do i just use body ground?
WHere do i get +12V signal to turn on the amp?
Oh yes where can i splice to get speaker lines form the rear bose?

one could be purchased at best buy... it converts your signal from speaker level to signal level. If you have a bose system though I believe you can connect RCAs directly to your harness in the back of the radio as they are coming out at signal(RCA) level
