The only way to carry a full size spare is to lug it around in back, taking up all the room. There was a tire carrier for awhile in the back of the car that worked well. It was never offered in the US.

ML spare
The full size spare will not fit under the car in the tray, you have to put your "flat" in the truck. That is what the plastic bag is for (with the tool kit). I dont know what you would do if the truck was full of stuff, tie it to the roof I guess! There is a nice chrome swing away bar available for the export market. There was one available a while back, someone wanted to go to the tray route. It was (Canadian car), you also will need a new metal cover for the "new" wheel and tire that you also have to buy. I also saw some on the road to South Florida on a car carrier, looked pretty nice (hinged on the passenger side rear)
