ML430 MCS system CD-based
Dear members
I am trying to get the navigation system in my ML to function without a CD map.
I want to use it like a basic Garmin GPS system without the hassle of changing CDs or reading already drawn maps.

Do you know how to do it? How to read my position and programing my way?
Thanks for the help

a car that can't do the throttle reset.
doesnt make sense, please elaborate. you want to use the factory equipment without the cd, or without predrawn mpas? then how would it work? sounds impossible. even aftermarket nav systems run offa cd or dvd and use predrawn maps.

I will try to elaborate:
Yes, I want to use it without a CD or Predrawn Maps.
I dont want an elaborate map with roads and gas stations, neither do I need guidance (Go left or Right to get to a given point)
I just want to see myself a dot moving along a waypoint.
I want to configure these waypoints myself.
In short, I just want to connect the MCS to the satellite positionning system and see the most basic positionning.
No maps, no colors, no guidance.

I see what you are aiming for. You are after a basic chart Plotting system, like the handlheld GPS systems, or boat systems. I cannot see how this can be achieved as the navigation system is designed to mark your position in relation to the chart that it has on the cd.
Also I see you want to put in waypoints, the system only allows this by use of the chart, and not my entering lat/long manually. Without the chart the system has no point of reference so I cannot see how this could be achieved.

Diabloic, i understand. yes, it is possible. all you need is gps locator, and a laptop module connected to the mcs (if you want to rad off the mcs). it will be mapping the route you take in realtime. but it usually carries a monthly fee, unles you do not mind it being in passive mode.

I have 2 questions::o
1) I thought the GPS locator already existed in the MCS to give it the ability of positioning on the bought CD maps.
2) I have a Garmin 12 (GPS): Can I link it to the MCS? If yes and if through a laptop module (what is it exactly a laptop PC or a laptop card...), how is it done in practice?
Thanks

is your garmin capable of being linked to a laptop?
you need a gps unit that has a seperate esn number that reads as though it is mobile modem unit. this is only necessary if you need realtime motion tracking. for part track you only need a gps motion unit. either way, if you plan on reading the mapping off of the mcs you need to have a aux video source installed.
