Blower fan fills with leaves?

I had this problem several years ago (strange noise when turned on heating fan) and it was remedied by the service guys taking leaves out of the blower fan somehow. After several years the noise has returned. The service department believes that Mercedes came out with some kind of cowling or cover that remedies the problem. When I went in today to have it researched on Netstar the page had vanished into cyberspace. Does anyone here know anything about this such as when the add on piece first became available? My ML320 is long out of official warranty, but if this is a design defect it would seeem that it should be corrected regardless of warranty with the piece added so the leaves and squirrels keep out of my blower.

I know of no updated parts for this situation. Even so, why would you expect it to be repaired for free? There is no such thing as a perfectly designed car. If manufacturers were forced to constantly update parts for free on older cars, every vehicle would be in a constant state of recall, and all the companies would go broke quickly.
Warranty is 4 years or 50K miles in the USA. Less in other countries. Once that warranty is over, the cost of any repairs is the owners responsibility.

I already paid a couple hundred bucks in labor charges to have the leaves removed the first time. If there was an available fifty dollar cowling part that should have been added to prevent the problem again then I feel I should have at least been alerted about it.

And if that fifty dollar part was not available at the time of the repair?

If you paid a "couple hundred bucks" to do a 10 minute r&r of the blower motor, I strongly suggest you review that repair with the management of the shop that performed it. That is an excessive labor charge any way you look at it. 1 hour of labor should be more than adequate to remove and clean a blower motor, and replace the dust filter if required.

How do leaves get in there anyway? My ML sits outside and I occasionally open the hood and remove any leaves that have accumulated under and along side the wipers. Should I be doing anything else? Please don't say build another garage...that's next year!

I recently started getting this strange noise from the A/C-Heater fan when I turn it up to medium-high. I wonder if it is leaves stuck in the blower. Sounds like the fan might be hitting leaves. Makes sense...we recently had a bad wind storm with rain and I had to drive the ML in it.....leaves blowing all over the road....real bad. I bet they are stuck somewhere. I wonder where I have to look? Can I remove them myself?

Every time I change my cabin air filter I get all kinds of leafs and trash falling out. The filter is after the blower so all that stuff came through the blower. Every now and then I get the leaf sound and I just turn up the blower speed to grind up and push through whatever is rubbing on the fan blades. This usually works. I haven’t had to remove the blower motor yet. I have tried to find out how this stuff is getting into the system, since some of the pieces are much larger than the grill by the wipers, but havent found the path yet. I think this has happened in every vehicle I have owned.

Stop parking under tress?
Seriously , just learn how to remove and clean the cabin filter. The leaves are trapped between it and the blower.
I just got hit by this and paid $130 for my ignorance.
