Louvered sunroof?
I am looking to buy a used ML here in the UK, and my local dealer has a 2000 car with everything on it, including a "louvered sunroof".
What is the louvered sunroof. Is it cloth or glass, and is it any bigger than a standard sunroof. He said it was an expensive option but I cannot find any details.
Can anyone describe and are there any tips as to whether this is a good option?
Thanks
Marc

You DO NOT want a lamella roof. Its that simple. Those things are mega bucks to repair, and you WILL be repairing it. They are also noisy. It could have been nice, I like how huge the opening is, but in reality it just doesn't hold up.

4+ years on my 2000 ML with skyview in Sunny California...
No problems here....works flawlessly and on a bright sunny day (which we have plenty in CA), the drive feel with the roof fully open is just awesome.
I am in fact disappointed that MB didn't continue offering that option on later models after 01.
That would be one of the major reasons, I might not upgrade from my existing 00 model.

Thanks for input, and thank you for the link to the picture mihir_d - that was ver useful. Its not clear what material the roof is made of - is it glass or plastic?

Side steps & other chrome stuff is all OEM
I am 6'00" tall so they don't really help me that much, but for shorter people, I get the opinion that they make all the difference in getting in and out. Of course, they enhance the look of the ML teremendously...
The skyview roof plates are made of solid metal & have a matching stitched vinyl/leather interior.
In my 4+ years of ownership, I have never ever had a vibration/noise/leakage/electrical failure problem with the roof.

My wife has it and it is amazing. Only broke once when our niece tried to open it with the XMAS tree on top. It is almost the entire width of the roof and is simply awesome. It is metal louvers that tilt and retract as if you would open your blinds in your home. On the inside is matching vinyl to match the interior. Our car is black and the roof is flat matte black. Go for it, it is a blast.
