wipers with a mind of their own

No I'm not talking about the automatic wipers unless that means that they don't work at all...in any position. WTF?!?!? we had our first ice and snow yesterday and when I turned on the wipers nothing happened. I mean nothing, they didn't even try to work and the windshield was getting impossible to see thru. Again, I am glad things only happen to me and not the wife with our baby in the car. Is there an explanation for this? I had turned them on and off dozens of times and cycles thru every setting. The temp was only about 20F and the car was not covered with ice and snow when I started.

Could it be that the blades were frozen to the windshield?? If so and you left them on perhaps you blew the fuse.

honestly, that could be the problem but the car was parked in a garage and then immediately to the road. After getting fuel and leaving, they did start working so the fuse is fine. still freezing temps so I'm going to try it today and see.

If its an unheated garage and the w/s or wipers were wet when parked it certainly could be and most likely was the problem. Have had this happen to me in other vehicles but not any of my MB's.

i really doubt it. my garage is about 50* when freezing outside and was not wet. I saw a wiper icon on the display the other day so there is something happening.

The only wiper icon I have ever seen on mine is when the rear wiper is turned on. Is that what you saw??

It has happened again. Tonight I drove home in 40F mist and couldn't get the wipers to turn on. I stopped the car and turned it on and off, since this has gotten the wipers going before, and still nothing. After several times, I decided to continue home. After 30 minutes or so, I get home and the whole trip I am cycling the wipers switch. I actually got the rear wiper to work about a mile from the house. Tomorrow, the car goes back to MB to fix this and hopefully the tranny.

Oh after I pulled into the garage and shut the car off I thought I would try again so I started the ML and the wipers sprang to life. So frustrating!

i also had this fixed this week. according to my dealer, there was a DTB for this problem and they replaced the rain sensor, parameterization of the wind screen and the ?control? number 164-820-90-26.

4-wheel ones
I am kinda getting worried that my wipers may not work when I really need it to..
Looks like those who are having this issue have ML500. Has this issue happen to ML350 owners?
