Which V8 for 2007

Does anyone know which V8 engine (besides the 6.2ltr) will be used in the 2007 model? I'm assuming the 5.0 liter is history and would like to know if the 4.7 or 5.5 liter engine will be available.

The R500, ML500 and G500 all keep the old V8 for 2007, see article.

I don't understand this either because I think a ML450 and a fully loaded ML550 would make the M more popular, ditto for the R-Class, but nope they keep the ancient 5L SOHC V8 for 2007.

There was another member here that posted the order guide for the 07 ML and it did indeed show the old V8 for 07'. I didn't believe it at first, but now I guess it is officials.

I personally think Mercedes is waiting until the new V8s get direct injection before putting them in the ML/R.

Thanks for the update. The diesel is looking better and better. As much torque as the 5.5 liter V8 should get the job done.

Could it be they are planning to introduce in the GL first and have a trickle down effect? Although I would think the 450 would be adequete for the ML, so why wait

I was hoping they would put the 5.5 liter in the ML

Well that trickle down usually happens in a matter of months, or just in 1 model year later. With the new V8s in everything else for 2007 I don't see why they'd wait with the ML/R either. They may still be trying to figure out if they should go with the 5.5L or the 4.6L in the ML and R-Classes. Though by not making a GL550 for our market a ML550 and R550 would upstage the GL450 in power which wouldn't make sense. This is one of the bigger mysteries about MB to come along in years.

It could be a matter of having enough of the new engines. They may not have changed over all the plants.
