Smile Know anything about Bluetooth?

Who knows what is needed exactly (equipment wise) to hook up the hands free technology of a 2007 ML350 with the factory installed wiring? I have a Blackberry 8700, but want to install the bluetooth technology in the vehicle that will allow me to upgrade my phone in the future.

Also, any ideas on the cost range?

Advise is appreciated.

Thanks.

You will need the MB Bluetooth dongle. It looks like a silver and blue TV remote control and installs easily in your armrest. It is available online from MB. I also saw a few on ebay. You can also get it at your local MB dealer.

I paid $350 for mine from my local dealer. List is $408.

Any questions let me know!

There is a an old and a new part number for the Bluetooth Dongle (the "puck") in the US. They are:

B6 787 5878 (new USA)
B6 787 5839 (old USA)
B6 787 5838 (EU)

I have been told there is no functional difference between the two, but given all the problems with the puck it wouldn't surprise me if they made some changes.

BTW, the Audio and Electronics forum (https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-electronics-38/) has a lot of info about the puck and the issues with it. Unfortunately the system was designed and developed by Motorola and so only really works with their phones (and damn few of them at that). And unfortunately Motorola phones are not good at being phones (their OS is as dumb as cheese).

I will be getting one for my new ML, but i fully expect it to live down to its reputation. I'll probably end up putting in a Parrot system.

I been using the system for about a week now with a Motorola Q. I can't speak for any other phones but it works 100%. Phone book transfer, received and dialed calls, etc. No problems whatsoever.

Mine is flaky. I know that it my phone is not 100% compatible. It is an LG VX8500 (Chocolate) for Verizon. I don't get any phonebook download, but I can make and receive calls, so it works in that regard. I had the dealer work the MHI completer kit in to the lease price, then purchased the puck off eBay.

I have confirmed with Auto Wireless Solutions (www.wireless4mb.com) that the new version / part number of the bluetooth adpater (B6 787 5878) has indeed been updated for "better compatibility with a wider range of phones." All of the new units are on nation-wide backorder (900 units for customers, 1500 for MB dealers). If an MB dealer has a bluetooth unit in stock, it's an old version (B6 787 5839) with the old firmware. AWS indicated that they will have the new version before the dealer network gets them (by about a week). I have one of the new units on order with them; it's supposed to be here on Monday. We'll see how well it works.

Sorry, I didn't ask them. If the firmware for the old units is in flash memory it should be possible to update it. I have done that with my Bluetooth equipped laptop on the several Parrot systems I have. Whether MB will do it or not is another matter. If they do, I'm sure it will require that the units be sent back to a secret underground factory in Germany and cost more than twice as much as a new one. I sense a lot of e-bay activity coming up.

BTW, the new units have been delayed another week.

2006 C230 Sport
Hey guys,

I am VERY new to this. Here's my thing. I just got my 2006 c230 sport. It's wonderful. It says it pre-wired for a phone. The radio and steering have phone controls on them. I called parts at the dealer. He says I need an expensive kit to complete the phone system. And they dont have them! So I ask about bluetooth. He's clueless. I have a blackberry cell. What can I do to get bluetooth to work in my car. The dealer is clueless. Can anyone help me with this issue?

Thanks,

Thanks,
On my 06 E320, it did indeed need a very expensive kit to complete the handsfree, then you still need to get the bluetooth dongle. However, the only way to really tell is to pull the data card on the car. If it says prewired for phone, then you just need the puck and base. I tried the scoche (sp) mic which plugged into AUX port on sound system, it worked Ok, but you manually had to flip over to AUX mode when a call came in. I would get the visor mount bluetooth and save money for some other goodies.
