ML500 VS X5 4.8i
Hey guys, just became a new member.
I am planning to buy my second car in October November.
I ve only thought BMW 07 X5 (E70) for any choice, but once I heard from many users about its inferior quality (rattle sound and etc), I decided to open my mind and put MB ML500 into consideration.
How would youguys think about ML500 (2007)? in quailty wise?
What would be its strength and weakness?
Any recommendation to my final choice?
Price is little higher than X5, but it is not a big concern to me.
It will be used to variety of purposes like trip, work, ride and so forth.
Thanks

A factor to consider between the two would be the 7-passenger seating of the X5, which is not a concern of mine (look at the GL if it is of yours). I am extremely happy with my ML350, but I would recommend you try the ML320CDI (wasn''t available when I got mine), as the gas mileage of the 350 and 500 are not great (but no worse than the X5). I would highly recommend the Airmatic air suspension option.
BTW, the June 2007 Automobile mag. has a story on high-performance SUVs, though they compare the X5 with the ML63 (not a fair comparison).

I owned 2003 X5 and liked it very much. Test drove a 2007 4.8i (non-sport) and was very disappointed with the ride with run flats. I had read the ride had been improved, but driven back to back, I thought my 2003 drove better. I went across the street and bought a GL450. The GL ride was far superior as were the interior appointments IMO. However I do miss the handling of the X5.

After test driving the new x5 4.8 i would never look at the ml back again..the interior quality of the x5 is far greater and much nicer...i like the new x5 and it sure does look outstanding with the 20" rims..i would not look back at the ML agian..maybe if comparing it with the 3.0 which is slower than the ml350..

Other than the third row seat availability on the BMW its no contest and then you should look at the GL. I was a BMW guy till 1998 and I will never look back and do not believe will ever go back.

2007 BMW X5 4.8i > 2007 MB ML500 ...hands down, no question about it IMO
now 2008 4.8i vs 2008 ML550 ...would be interesting, but I would still take the X5 just because its a much better looking/interior car for the same price range and has the 4 year maintenence

2007 ML500
if maintenence costs are an issue, go for the X5, as the first 4 years/50,000 miles are covered. Mercedes charges for that now. The ML550 won't be any different as far as the interior/build quality than the 500. When you guys all say that the 550 will be different, you're simply basing this off of speed/engine.
To the OP - I'd say you need to drive them both and figure out which one you like more. You should check some BMW sites (X5world.com), and see what they say. Keep in mind this is a Mercedes site, X5world is a BMW site, and the responses may be biased respectively.
