Can nav and b/u cam be added to 06 ml350?

Hi,
Just bought a 06 ML350, but does not have nav & back up camera. The command screen says these features are not available and the dealer says they cannot be added after the fact, is this true? ....how would we go about adding them? (There is a slot for the nav dvd behind the screen)
Can anyone point me to more information please.

Unfortunately you will have to get a completely different Command unit. I know it's hard to believe, but the NAV command units are different than the non-nav. You'd be better off getting an aftermarket setup by Pioneer.

No they not different units, one has to add the nav drive to the unit plus nav antena set it up and it will work, as for the back up camera i dont know.

Absolutely NOT True

You can certainly add NAV to the ML from the dealer with no antenna or any physical evidence except for the fact that it will work on your screen. i added NAV to my '06 350 and love it. I can't see bying this much car without having NAV in it. It will cost you more after market than it would have if it were done initially but it was worth it for me. Cost me around $2K. Not sure about the backup camera but I would geuss it could be added as well.

Check with another MB dealer, Maybe call a few different dealers to compare price but I wouldn't go outside to get it done.

Not sure what your dealer is thinking???

I was told by my dealer that nav could be added as a dealer installed accessory but that if you do that you don't get the backup camera function. Factory or dealer, the sat antenna is under the fiberglass rear roof section so you can't see any visible antenna from the outside. I just checked the MBUSA website and they still list nav as available both as a part of a package and a la cart as an "accessory". I ordered both my ML's with the P2 package which already included nav and backup camera so I never had to test the dealer on this. I wonder if your dealer is saying no because you can't get both as a retrofit. If so, could live with just nav?

My advice to you is this...even if it can be done, as paulybagadonuts said, it would cost you around 2k...you'd be better off buying a TOMTOM wide screen for $600-$700, and they'll probably be easier to use/work better then the MB navi too

if you don't mind paying double to have the "stock" look then go for it, I personally would never pay 2k for the MB Navi system as it's not as user friendly/high tech as others on the market, in particular the Lexus ones and for the most part Acura one's as well.

Thanks for all the responses - we did call another dealer who said the nav could be installed but for around the 2k mark and that's after we purchase the command console ourselves- It would be nice to have, but for that price I'll just get a map! More than the nav I think I'd value the B/u cam more, but am told that that needs to be wired from factory - so guess we're SOL.
Love the Merc just disappointed that little things like ipod conn. and bluetooth aren't standard on this type of luxury vehicle. Also can't switch from playing a CD (on my single drive) to radio without ejecting the disc! - What's up with that?? Oh well ...at least I've got mega cup holders!

That's weird...I don't think that's normal, I haven't used my in-dash CD player yet but I can't think any reason why they'd make you do that just to switch to Radio

I'm facing the same issue, but the dealer that sold it to me (suzuki of Queens) says only after-market cam can be added without changing the colsole and it may have to be installed in the visor or rearview mirror. As far as the Nav goes, All I need is the DVD..apparently.

I have bought a 2007 ML350 that didn't have Nav or Rear view camera and would like to know what I need in order to connect my new Command system w/ nav. and the rear view camera?

I took the command system & rear view camera from another 2008 ML350 but when I installed them on mines the nav system works but not the camera, when I drop the car into reverse the screen turn black but no feed from the camera... Its missing the cables that connect the two.

Does anyone know what I need to purchase in order to make the system work?
i ready installed the backup camera on the back just need to know where to connect the RCA cable please...

Do a search on retrofitting camera

If I remember correctly it is pins 1 & 7 on the small black connector on the command, but check the old threads
