Ml550 with amg flares and H&R springs

I have 30mm spacers coming in that should make the wheels line up with the fender flares better. I love the H&R springs how better the car drives and the overall appearance. However, this is actually my wife's car and she isn't too pleased at the moment. I will probably be going back to stock springs in about two months.

I'd love bigger wheels...

but the cost. I would if it were my car in a heartbeat. For now, I think the spacers will do the job and I will post pics when it is finally done. In terms of the flares, they retail for $930 at the authorized dealer counter. I got 15% off because I had a coupon for that particular dealership. The install with paint was an additional $665. Overall about a $1500 upgrade.

I think MB retained the same exhaust tips...

this pic is from caranddriver.com

If they've updated, I don't know anything about that. If you mean, why don't I have the ML63 amg dual exhaust tips, the dealer can't locate the part number for the tips and also I would have to modify the rear apron for the tips to fit if I had them.

Exactly what is it about the H&R springs that your wife doesn't like? I've been thinking about getting the H&R springs for my 550, mostly for the lower stance. An improvement in handling wouldn't be bad either, but I wouldn't want to make the ride too harsh. Then my wife wouldn't like it. Any feedback on them would be appreciated.

Thanks,

- FD

She just doesn't like the lower stance...

I love the ride, it corners and handles more like an x5 now. She just liked being higher off the ground. I had shown her pictures of the ml63 just prior to the install and she really wasn't pleased with the ride height. IMHO overall the ride is not harsh. When you do go over some really rough patches of road, you do feel it somewhat more but not really that much. However, I am taking corners at a much faster speed without body roll. I really wish I had tried the Eibach springs. It drops the car by 1.4" on all fours vs 1.5/1.9. Maybe she wouldn't have noticed as much.

Buy some ML63 20" wheels/tires the look you are looking will happen. You need to be more creative with your discripton of why you MUST make the changes. Always works for me!

ml63 rims...

if there was a good used set up for sale I would probably purchase them, but they retail for about $1150 a piece at the dealer without the rubber. Over the weekend, I would have actually purchased them if they the dealer had them in stock, but they had to special order them so I decided against it. I think I will just wait for the spacers to see what happens. The flares make the wheels appear smaller because of the spacing more than their actual diameter because from a direct sideview the wheel size is really not that bad, plus the actual diameter of the 19" vs 20" is exactly the same.

Very nice I like the hight of H&R springs. The ML63 wheels are 295 and the 550's are 255 or 265, I think wider would look better.

I know that someone had a set of 20" wheels/tires for sale on this site a couple weeks ago. I think he wanted around $2,900.00 for the set with now blemishes! Yea that's the IR glass for P3, it's very dark.

I know the 20's would look better...

I wish some were on sale on ebay or on this site, but they are not. I probably will wait until I have to replace tires until I get a new set of wheels. In terms of the tint, it is a ceramic tint (huper optic) 35% all the way around. The rear tint is a lot darker (like limo tint) with the huperoptic on top of the oem. It really does cool down the car. I have this in my daily driver also and I love it. It's a little more expensive but well worth it.

Wheels for ML550

Hi, Your ML look great. I've been considering fender flares. Thanks for posting photos and price. I bought a set of wheels and tires off BigWheels.net that work great on my ML550. Great price too at $1840 for the set of 4 TSW Bremma and Toyo Proxes S-T's.

thanks for referring the site

you must have at least 25 mm spacers on your car if you have the 20x10 setup. I am actually thinking of going this route thanks for the website. Your setup looks great. Remember that ml63 rims actually stick out 31 mm more than other ml models because of the flares. They are 20x10 with a 46mm offset. For TSW wheels in 20x10 with the 42mm offset, that would require a 5 mm spacer if you want to stick within factory spec. You know with the flares added you probably could get away without using a spacer at all. Can I ask you how you obtained MB centercaps for this wheel?

Lucky

Hi, actually I feel lucky the 20x10's worked with no spacers. I was concerned about the offset when I received the wheels but they barely fit over the front brakes, plenty of room over the rear brakes. I will consider spacers if I get to the point of going for the fender flares. Right now the 10 inchers slightly stick out from the wheel well, however the tread width fits within the wheel well, resulting in an acceptible look to me. These wheels are also available in 20x8" and if I had to do it over again I probably would go for the 8" from which I would expect a slightly less aggressive ride, although there is an amazing improvement in the handling going from the stock wheels and tires to this combination. And I do like the look of the deep dish rims.
