California Legal CDI

Does anyone know when the ML320 CDI will be available for sale in California? Have any Addblue equiped ML's come off the assembly line, and if so, where are they?

I'm buying mine out of state and registering the vehicle in Arizona since I have some property there. Of course I will drive it here in SoCal and after 6 months or 7K miles I will transfer to CA.

Need CA legal ML diesel

I have looked at a lot of out of state cars with >7500 miles, (minimum for CA registration), and have run through all the ways to circumvent the law in my mind, but have decided I want to do this ‘right’ despite the asinine smog regulations that will allow me to continue to drive my full size Bronco which gets 12-14 MPG.

BTW- The most interesting way I have found is the exception to the law that states that if your vehicle is wrecked and unable to be repaired while operating it out of state, you can buy a replacement vehicle in that state. Anyone know of any big cliffs in Oregon?

A bit of a warning on brining in a CDI to CA

II am now the proud owner of a 08 320 CDI ML legally registered in CA.

I would warn the poster from NM about driving the CDI in CA. You see I did the same thing. I established residency in NM, bought the CDI in NM and brought it home to CA.

All was fine until some RAT turned me in! I got a very nice letter from the CHP telling me that I had 20 days to resolve the registration on my vehicle. (yes there is a web site for turning in folks at chp.ca.gov). Funny since the CDI was registered in NM with a NM address, but the letter came to my home in CA!

More on the saga in a few days

what if u buy a car with '7500mi' in vegas or arizona and then register in Cali? (to those who don't have residence out of CA)
i'd assume leasing CDI is out of the questions unless u have residence out of state...

That you can do

If you buy your CDI with more then 7500 miles on the clock it's considered a used car and then there are no restrictions in CA. In fact you can buy it IN CA if it has 7500 miles on it.

I hope for them to come out before the lease is up on my ML350. New York follows to same emissions as Cali. I was going to get the ML320 but would have had to register it in NJ. I heard it should be out before 2010. The sooner the better.

If you meet these requirments you can bring it from out of state. 7500 mile is only one piece of the pie.

Tejas, did you get a NM drivers license as well?

Nm

Hi,

No, I didn't get a NM drivers license, but I did get a NM ID card, also opened a bank account, and a library card, plus I got NM insurance too!

The dealer in NM will sell you a CDI with a Calif ID but you will need a NM address.

Guys, MBUSA introduced a CDI lease program for California last year. It's lease only, BLUETEC only. The actual number of vehicles in this program was just a couple hundred, IIRC.
