Question How many MPG are you getting?

I'm beginning to think my gas milage is a little off.

The more I read throughout the forums, the more I'm seeing other ML and GL owners getting 20+ MPG with their vehicles.

I've owned my ML 350 for a little over a year and have averaged a little over 15 MPG.

Wifey drives the car mostly, very short distances to and from work at around 20 - 30 MPH.

The only time it gets to loosen up a bit is when I take it out on the weekends to put a little air under the wings but still 15 MPG seems a little poor overall to me.

Maybe it's normal but if it's not, maybe I'll have the dealer take a look.

Sounds pretty normal. Although I've got the 500, the highest average MPG on a very long trip was about 21-22. Most of my driving is of the very local variety. My car is barely able to warm up during my commute to work, so I've been in the 13-15 range.

Thanks Guys

Now I don't feel as bad. I thought I might have to get the ECU or something adjusted but see some of you are in the same boat.

I appreciate your help.

Wow! I thought the 350's would do much better than that! My 500 has averaged 18mpg over the last 6 months with mixed driving. I expected the 350's to be up around 20mpg or so??

That's why I opted for the TURBODIESEL!!!
20-23 is what I get when I stand on it. If I behave and it's warm outside, I can see close to 26-30.

Same here for the CDI. The low nos. for a 350 in slow, stop and go short trips does not surprise me. These are the worst possible conditions for mileage! This is why the auto-gods created the phrase, "your mileage may vary."

08 ML350 15 - 16 mixed driving. Not great, but we looked at the Lexus hybrid and you really have to drive them like there are eggs between your feet and the pedals to get good mileage.
Decided that the SUV's features and looks are more important than the gas mileage.

90% of my driving takes place in the city, with a light/normal foot I get 15.14 MPG in my ML 320 CDI. The official value of 24.60 MPG is BULL****! The best that my car has ever performed in average is 16.11 MPG, anyone who claims otherwise are either having the car towed or bad at maths..

Not for nothing, but have you seen the picture for my post signature??? You might want to have yours checked. My worst in the city with very cold weather and me late for work is about 17.

I've driven my 2007 ML320 CDI 2000 miles since I picked it up (used) and have averaged 24.5mpg in mostly highway driving. Around town I agree, if I drive spirited I get closer to 18-19mpg, but highway driving averages >25mpg.

If you are getting 15 you either have a ML350 or something is seriously wrong with 1) you or 2) your car.

2007 ML320 CDI
My 2007 ML 320 CDI has been consistent in getting 24.5 to 25.5 mpg. This is on mostly 50 mph roads driving into a small suburban city. I have driven as much as 650 miles on a tank, on an all day mostly interstate drive.

My 06 gets 14/15 around town, 20/21 on the road at 70MPH and in mixed driving city/expressway gets about 17/18. Its a ML500. Not that much different than the 350.

sosh....we are both averaging the same mpg on our 500's.

I was recommending the 350 to a friend of mine who was concerned about gas mileage (she didn't care for the diesel), but I'm thinking she might as well go for the 500....the 06's are going pretty cheap and seem to be doing just as good for gas mileage??

My ML320CDI gets an honest 24 mpg highway calculated by hand going +5 over speed limit, about 19-21 round town

For the past 11,000 miles I have averaged just under 27 (26.8) MPG in my diesel ML. It's improving with time.

I drive about 85% highway going 75MPH, and 15% on back roads going 62 or below. I avoid traffic like the plague, and am fortunate enough to have a job that lets me arrive early and leave early - so as to avoid any residue of traffic on the FL turnpike N. of Orlando.

A small headwind can reduce your mileage quite a bit. Conversely, being in the middle of a traffic "pack" driving even faster than 75MPH will result in mileage that's closer to 28MPG or better.

Also despite what the owners manual says, I routinely put 26 gallons into the tank, sometime more. I almost always get over 700 miles per tank. My record is 750.

I have checked the trip (mileage) computer and it's dead nuts on.

Disappointing

I am only 2 months in with 1300 miles on my 08 and I am averaging 16.2. I was hoping to be closer to 17.
