ML bluetec opinions?

I would just like some comments on ML320 or 350 bluetec owners here...

First off...how refined and quiet is the engine? any vibration at idle or when accelerating?

How readily available is the low sulfur diesel?

and...how does it ride given the run flat tires??

Thanks!

The engine is very refined and is in fact the most technologically advanced engine sold in the USA.

You cannot find anything but low-sulphur diesel fuel--this by law.

cannot hear engine at all when in vehicle with windows up... rides a little harsh due to the construction of the run-flats, but still a nice ride...

The engine is remarkably quiet for a diesel. A couple of weeks ago and friend and I were having a chat while the vehicle was still on. He was astounded a couple of days later when he found out that it was a diesel. It's whisper quiet compared to his diesel F350...lol.

No noticeable vibration imo.

Up here, we have low sulfur diesel everywhere. It's premium diesel that is a little tougher to find, though I do have it locally.

I actually thought the stock RFT's were pretty good. I didn't find them to be very noisy or rough riding. I will admit that the non-RFT, Blizzak LM 25 4x4's that we just put on are quieter and ride a little softer.

Hope this helps.

Very quiet engine, when they start up at the end of the assembly line you cant really tell the difference between it and the gas burners.

the ML needs ULTRA low sulphur diesel, but that is what has been around since October 2006. low sulphur was prior to that. diesel pumps are required to have a label indicating the type of diesel that is being dispensed.

This is my first diesel vehicle and I am very satisfied with it. The noise is not harsh,(can only really hear motor on strong acceleration), cruises very quietly, ride firmness is OK even with the run flats, mileage is fine. Granted I only have about 1500 miles on it, but I like it so far. Out here in California all diesel fuel sold is ultra low suphur so I don't need to worry about it.

I'm driving one right now for a loaner. The bluetec is a better motor than my CDI I've got in an E class. No noise with the windows up but some rattle from the outside. I've averaged 24MPG in mixed driving which I think is pretty good. The truck is great on the road. I still think the CDI/BLuetec are great packages on the hwy. The downside, and I think it's a big downside, is that the ML is enough heavier than my E Class that it's a slug around town. You have to get used to giving it a bunch of throttle and then waiting for some turbo lag when leaving from a stop. Not that a truck is very sporty anyways but all sport leaves town with the diesel in an ML. It's all a compromise of what is important to you.

Good luck.

If you feel the need for speed, try the Kleeman box. Coworker has one and his diesel runs low 14's in the quarter mile at 97 MPH. That's about what a well tuned old school fox body Mustang GT would do back in the day.

As for the Bluetec drivers, anyone had to add Adblue as yet?

I've got a Kleemann box on my CDI. It helps but it is still slushy from a stop.

The more I drive the ML diesel loaner the more I like it. In fact, I think I may sell my E320 CDI and buy one. It's a really nice SUV.

Kleeman doesn't have anything compatible with the Bluetec's at this point....I spoke directly with Kleeman.

They topped up our AdBlue with our first service a couple weeks ago.

Was the Adblue price reasonable? Was the consumption for the mileage worthwhile? Just wondering as I will be replacing the wife's E class with a bluetec eventually and would like an idea if the Adblue is a concern to anyone.
Thanks.

It's a top off at the first year/10K is aprox $100. Thereafter it's a drain/flush/fill every year at about $200.
