Removing rear Trailer Hitch on 08 Benz ML350

Hello MB World,

I was wondering if any can help me out

I have a 2008 Mercedes Benz ML350 and I wanted to take off the rear Trailer Hitch. I looked underneath the rear bumper and it looks like the Hitch is connected to a rear reinforcement bar that runs Left to Right. It also bolts up to the chassis on the Left and Right side as well.

Any help/experience would be nice...

TIA

by my Service advisor........that, it can be removed, but it is a real hassle...My dealership wanted to charge me over $2000.00 to remove it...l really don't like the way it looks, but it came with the vehicle..

Would anyone post any photos of the way the OEM hitch looks on the ML? I want to have one installed on mine and was wondering what it will look like.

Thanks for all the input guys. I took off the rear Hitch yesterday and its a big pain in the *%^

It took me about 3 hours to remove the rear bumper and rear interior to access the rear Hitch. You will need some basic tools and lot's of Redbull!

You will need to buy a rear reinforcement from Mercedes Benz.

Can you tell us why you wanted your trailer hitch removed? i was considering adding it to my new purchase, just for possible future use (such like putting on a bike rack, or occasional towing etc.) Did it add a lot of weight to the SUV?

Don't ask because it's simply a "no accounting for taste" thing.
