The Salesman also said what we see in NYC at the end of the month might not be the final product. He stressed that it will only have minor exterior differences and it's not a major re-design. He said it'll be $600 more...-

 

Did he also tell you that he's an idiot? It is a complete redesign on a new chassis with new engines, new transmission programming (NAG2 FE+), etc. What you will see at New York is what will be arriving at dealerships in mid August.

 

The W166 is a complete redesign of the W164, exterior and interior-wise, not just a "facelift". There are various threads in this forums with pictures of the W166. See:

They aren't stupid. After the new cars are on the dealer floor, the old ones will have to be marked down like last week's fish. A good reason to wait even if you want the old model.

Most of the vehicles that are being built right now(2011 model) are of the higher optioned variety. Odds are good to find a 550 optioned near what you are looking for.

 

Even if you decide on a 2011 you should wait a little until the new models are announced and available. You will know more about the new models and be better able to make a decision. If the dealer does not have exactly what you want he can do a computer search of the inventory with other dealers around your area or even around the country. Unless you have very unusual desires, it will be available for a dealer trade. It costs very little to have it shipped to your dealer and is done all of the time with all brands of cars.

If he is unwilling to help, find a different dealer.

 

He told me it will cost $700 to have a car shipped to him from another dealer...that's like the price of an option.

 

Dump him.

 

He's pushing for a sale NOW. Typical dealer. You would be wise to wait. The 164 is an excelent model imo. One which you'll be able to get at a good price on once the 2012s come out. Chances are they'll have what you're looking for. Try a few other dealers. Itemize exactly what you want and e mail to all the MB dealers in a 50 mile radius.

I built the ML I wanted and sent the quotes to MB dealers within a 100 mile radius last night from the MBusa.com website.

So you guys think he's pulling a fast one making us think we're running out of time so we better act now?

So three separate dealers have told me I'll need to order my car...BAD DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT BS!!!

 

I was told to order soon too a couple weeks ago but to be safe if I wanted a 2011. A dealer search was done and the configuration I wanted could not be found at another dealership. It is possible I could have pieced something together out of existing stock that either had more options or changed color combination to find a match. But when I ordered, the build timeline I am slotted for is late May. I won't get actual build date until later this month. Part of what pushed me to late May was that I requested running boards as apparently all running board allocations were spoken for in prior weeks.

But it is possible you are running out of time to order soon.
