Retrofit/Upgrade to 2009 Exterior Mirrors

I think that the pre-2009 side mirrors are way too small. So I got myself a pair of 2009 side mirrors for my 2007 ML 350.

I thought this was a plug-n-play swap, but now I noticed that the new mirrors have a slightly different wiring.

Does anyone know what I need to change to make this work? Any help?

I bought the new mirrors without plugs. They came from a crashed ML and were not properly removed, but cut. However, I noticed that more wires come out from the 2009 mirrors, than from my 2007. So I cannot just simply reconnect them straight to the old plug.

I guess I need a wiring diagram or something like that. So, any help from someone who has done this before would be highly appreciated.

Be sure you're not comparing left with right, as driver side will have power for automatic dimming. Power is also required for heating, but I think that's both sides and something offered on the early mirrors, too.

I was wondering if you made any progress with this. I too would like larger side view mirrors.
They are one of the only things I don't like about our 2008 ML350.

Retro mirrors

Don't have all answers. But there are different mirrors depending on the Memory option. through 2009 . Vehicles equipted with Seat Memory also have the mirror memory option. That includes convenience fold away. That mirror motor is different than the non memory model. Thusly causing different number of wires.

Is the wire coding a match on any of the wires from the older mirror?

So... if I could find mirrors from an 09-11 without seat memory I might be okay?

I would suggest trying to match the option you have on your ML. If you have the memory package then you will want to have a memory mirror. Why? So that all of your options will work. Ie. automatic fold away reverse curbside mirror tilt assist. These are features of the Memory Package. If your seats have a memory buttons (3 of them) in addition to the tilt adjusting buttons on the side of the bottom seat segment, your mirrors are memory also. If not then they aren't.

That said If you can get a wiring diagram for both your ML model year and the retro mirror year and then buy the connecting clip for your ML year. This will be connected to the Retro mirror. Next you can splice the newer mirror's wires into the clip according to the wire diagram for your model. If there are excess wires like for Blind Spot detection which was not available when your ML was built tape off those non functional wires and you'll be all set.
