Wheels & Tires for ML63 AMG
Hello.
I just traded my 04 Infiniti FX45 for a 2008 ML63 AMG.
The AMG will need new tires before the fall and I wanted to change the wheels.
Would these fit? 20X9.5 35MM offset
http://www.ebay.com/itm/110897788124
The seller says it would without needing any spacers or new bolts and tires size would be 275/40R20. They're a bit narrower, would there be any problems, reduction in cornering or acceleration?
How much would I be able to get for my original AMG wheels?

Nice car! I also moved from a 2003 FX45! I also agree with komp55, I would not give up the original AMGs for some knockoffs. But, I say do what will make the ML look better for you.

Nothing wrong with getting aftermarket replica wheels, they won't be the best quality in the world(like HRE's or BBS forged barrels), but that isn't cheap junk. Fact is, they have got to meet or exceed the DOT's requirements to be able to sell here in the USA. I have had several replica sets(on different cars) and there really is NO noticeable difference in quality other than the weight. However, the OEM wheels will be just as heavy as they are cast not forged.
Don't worry about them, they will be perfectly fine, buy what you want. Not everything aftermarket is junk, most is yes junk, but not everything. You will not see any decreased performance as long as you run the same tire size as your current set.

AMG's are made by Ronal, a company that went out of business in N.A. No difference in quality compared to the 20" pictured.. Both have safety stamps.
With respect to tire/rim 20 versus 21" there's better tire choices for 20's. Largest gains in using a 20" is a larger sidewall allowing a smoother ride with very small to no handling takeaways.
Most people need a more compliant ride than all out high speed handling resulting in possible tire-rim damage.

What tires size would you recommend for a better / smoother ride. I have 295 40 20 right now.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I would leave it alone, but if you really must change your tire size you could do either of these:
265/45/20 - 0.310% difference in diameter so you should only be off by about 0.2MPH on your speedo
or
275/45/20 - 1.544% difference in diameter so you should only be off by about 1MPH on your speedo.

Thanks. I just would prefer a higher sidewall. I didn't expect it to be like my CLK55 running 35 and 30 series. For an SUV, I'm shocked that we have tires with less than a 50 series.
I'm looking for a 5 star rim with a lip. So far I have it down to these two, but don't know if they will fit without spacers. Any others that look like these that I should consider for an 2007 ML63, 46mm offset?
Really liking the Niche Nurburg - leaning towards these:
Other options:
Rennen R5 Steplip:
What do u guys think?
Stance SC5

Get a well known brand if you are going with wheels to ensure quality.
Here's a few:

Thanks, not bad, but what do you think of these? Niche Nurburg. Would 22 x 10.5 front and rear with 265 35 22 tires be to big for the front?

http://www.asantiwheels.com/
http://www.forgeline.com/
http://www.iforged.com/v8/index.php?act=home (much more reasonably priced)
http://www.adv1wheels.com/adv1wheels...collection.php (Nice wheels and still reasonable)
http://www.modularewheels.com/ (very nice wheels and reasonable)

Try selecting from some of these brands.
I'd recommend Brabus, Lorinser or Carlsson, but their prices are higher than most W164's used.

I would really watch for ride quality with larger wheels with this vehicle. Even with factory OE 20" wheels, the ride was rough--transmitting everything into the passenger compartment.
I had 20" OE under the Appearance Package and ride was rough--every road inperfection went into the cabin.
Since we know that MB is rather questionable in it's QC deparment, that may result in a cabin with more noice with no great enhancement in performance.
Just keep that in mind. Hit some good pot holes or an area under repair and you could be looking at replacing wheels and tires. I think buyers are wasting any money on knock-offs.

Ride comfort won't be compromised too badly as long as you choose the right tire.
