COMMAND & Bluetooth Question - Please chime in!

Hello All,

Been discovering some of the features of the COMMAND unit in our 09 ML63 and have found something that is rather annoying when using Bluetooth...

Everything works fine when making calls while driving, but if I want to stop the car and get out while talking (for example, when I arrive in the office in the morning and I was on the phone while driving there), the connection drops inevitably and requires me to dial the call again. I have visited the dealership trying to get their POV but their knowledge is less than basic. They went to the point of telling me that this is how it's supposed to be...

In any case, does anyone know how to continue a call on a handset once the vehicle has been turned off?

On another front, I noticed the maps on the NAV are a bit dated (particularly considering the extent of the road network development where we live). At the dealership they were pushing hard to get me to fork out $250 for the 2012 map release, but when we got into a car that had these maps already loaded, these did not include our home address...

Is there a way to download a more recent map for this system (hopefully at a lower cost too)?

Thanks,
Andres G

Hello, as far as keeping the call connected, that would be a function of your phone. On my iPhone, I just change it to the phone instead of my car and it works fine. The maps are available from the dealer or online from the manufacturer. Just google your model and command map update and it should come up. It is a little less expensive direct from the map company but not a lot. Hope that helps.

How do you do that?
Do you just disable Bluetooth?

No, when the Bluetooth is connected you will see a source button where you can switch from the mb connection to the phone or any other source that may be active.

OK I cannot find a source setting but I have a HTC android which may differ. I will check with the phone dealer who is always most unhelpful!

Bill,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried both on an iPhone and on a Blackberry, doing exactly what you suggested which is change the source to phone instead of Bluetooth... still, to no avail, the call drops once we open the door to get out of the car.

Had this conversation with the guy from the dealership who was trying to explain to me how this works, but he was not able to make it happen either.

Any ideas? Would this be a software glitch?

Thanks,
Andres

I'm sorry you can't get this worked out. When I am close to home I actually find it easier to answer the iPhone on the phone versus hitting the answer button on the steering wheel and then the car's Bluetooth is not involved in the connection.

But when you answer on the phone, the Bluetooth takes over the call!

I don't know why but it doesn't on my iPhone. I sometimes forget and pick up the phone and if I answer it on the phone it doesn't switch to Bluetooth.

iPhone gives you the option to use iPhone or Bluetooth. When on a Bluetooth call, press one of the iPhone buttons and you will see the option menu.
The issue I have is when you are on a Bluetooth call and are ready to exit the vehicle, when I switch to iPhone to continue the call, the Command unit stays on in telephone mode, even as I locks the car and walk away. Not sure if eventually it will turn off as I always go back to the car and manually hit the End button on the Command, then it goes black screen.
Otherwise if I don't switch to iPhone manually, the call will drop once I remove the key and open the door.

You may make a team, buy the new map and share the cost. Some did and worked for them, I lost the opportunity.
