What motor oil to use on my ML 320 cdi
Hi there good people,
I am planing a road trip from British Columbia (Canada) to California and Arizona with my 2008 ML320 CDI. So i went to the shop today and got oil filter and motor oil the clerk told me to get 5w30 grade so i did get Mobile 1 synthetic 5w30 but now thinking he recommended this for the Canadian weather and not for the hot summer weather in California and Arizona. So my question is should i go and change the oil to different grade or this one will do? i was going to visit the mechanic tomorrow to change it but i will have to post pond this for now. The other think is i didn't see any Mobil synthetic with 5w40 grade in the shop only Castrol Edge. My car is over 300k kilometers so this will be the last trip that will do.
Thank you for the help

Thank you for the reply Ted
My main point is if the 5w-30 will not be thick enough for the hot weather in California and for the wear out engine. I have heard that with the wear of the engine you should move to more thicker oil, not sure if that is a myth.

Yes, 5W-40 motor oil for these diesels has been superceded by 5W-30. This for fuel economy reasons. This has occurred since your owners manual was published, so latest information from Mercedes applies.
Thinking that climate or ambient temperature makes a difference in motor oil selection is an obsolete concept in the 21st century when speaking of full synthetic motor oils. It makes no difference ... most synthetics will pour at minus 55 degrees F and simply do not break down with heat.
This is the oil you should be using
