Help with location of fiber optic radio components.

I'm looking for some help with diagnosing a radio issue that I've been having. The SUV is a 2008 ML350 with the Harman Kardon Logic 7 stereo. The problem I'm having is:

The stereo is stuck on the Mercedes Logo and wont boot further. Once in a while, it will boot all the way up and work, but this is rare.
The radio plays sound, and the volume knob works.
The power button works.
If I turn the stereo off and then press the audio button or satellite button, it will go to the radio or satellite radio. I can also play a CD. The hands free for my cell phone works, if I answer the call using my phone.
All other buttons on the radio do nothing.
The navigation does not work, and hasn't worked for a long time prior to this issue. It always said "disc error" or something like that.

I bought a fiber optic loop bypass to test the different components of the system. I have found three components under the rear drivers side seat, two of which have a fiber optic connector. I bypasses both and it didn't help. There's a bluetooth thing in the armrest compartment for the handsfree phone, but that doesn't appear to have a fiber optic connected. Other than these items, am I missing a component? I haven't tested the amp, because the sound works so I'm assuming the amp isn't the problem.

Thank you!

You have no alternative but to remove the radio and see if the previous owner retrofitted some device.

That’s not the case at all. I’ve already removed the radio, and tested the components listed in my original post.

Yes it is the case because you did not say that you removed the radio in your original post.

Short or by passing every thing on the loop at same time (several bypass loops) you need a SDS scan.

I had very similar issues, it was driving me nuts.
After a lot of messing about with fibre optic shunts etc... I ended up sourcing a replacement Comand APS on eBay, installed it..
PROBLEM SOLVED.

2006 ML350
I need help with my 2006 ML350 Harmon Kardon radio. I want to replace the radio with an after market unit. I have told by electronics installers that I have to buy a kit for about $ 600.00 to achieve this. The existing radio does not work. I am unable to find a repair facility to fix the unit now in my car. Any thoughts?

Least expensive is to get a OEM unit off ebay. Where are you located?????

Hi - Did you ever find the other locations? I am trying to find them in my 2007 ML 350. I only found one Fiber optic connector under the rear seat. However, mine did not come with a rear view camera (I think they were not standard until 2008); not sure where/if that one would be in a 2008. .

Besides the one under the back seat, which seems to have something to do with the cell phone ? I think there is one in the glove box for the CD changer. And of course the Amp and the Comand each have one. I don't have any other ones I can think of (no TVs, Voice controller, etc.) I've opened the console before and there don't seem to be any hidden in there.

Thanks for the help if anyone can respond.

I love that video. The carpet cut starts out kind of neat and clean, but later it looks like all heck breaking loose. The engineers at MBenz who did the relatively neat battery compartment should have done this side too :-)
